Hi,

A new build of GFI Network Server Monitor 5.5 BETA (build 20040512) has been uploaded to the FTP server. The changes/fixes in this build are the following:

1. Fixed retreival of NETBIOS name for the service account information page of the installation.

2. Fixed termination of installation when GFI NSM service is installed but cannot be started.

3. Implemented proper conversion of UNC paths to local paths when importing old configurations that use scripts from the old NSM share folder (GFINetMon).

Note: This installation will ask to remove the currently installed version of NSM before installing. To keep the same configuration, please install to the same directory of the older version.

The build can be downloaded from:
ftp://ftp.gfi.com/beta/gfinsm55.exe or
ftp://ftp.gfisoftware.com/beta/gfinsm55.exe

We would appreciate your feedback on this new build.

It looks like there is no "copy" monitor command or option so we still have to make new monitors by hand. When you 65 servers with 9 things you monitor it becomes a pain.

Alex,

While true, you can copy rules by editing an exported .amf file and importing it. You can do this in notepad. Find your rule and select it starting with the [xxxxx] at the top of the rule down to the next= or child=, which ever is last.

Copy the selected text to the clipboard and paste it right below the existing rule. Increment the [xxx] number by 1. Copy that number to the NEXT= field of the original rule so GFI knows that your new rule is next.

Modify the contents of the new rule to reflect a new title and parameter info. Save As the file so that you don't overwrite your previous export file (it will be handy as a backup if the new file doesn't work well).

Do this as many times as you need to and import the file.

I have another post regarding how to use Word Merge and Excel data files to create wholesale config files as well. Those tips can be useful if you wanted to add a rule or two to all 65 of your servers.

Spoot

Spoot,

For feedback on the beta, it is preferred to make use of the beta list. However, we will also be checking the forums for posts on the beta version.

Thank you.

Alex Hertz,

Currently, there is still no option to copy the monitoring rules. That is still in the feature list currently.

hi nicks,

I want to try the beta version 5.5 but I can't install it. It seems to hang at stopping services. Is it because I have installed an expired evaluation copy? How can I install and evaluate NSM version 5.5?

kaynam,

Did you already have GFI Network Server Monitor installed on the same machine?

Please ensure that you have Administrator rights on the machine.

Confirm that no virus scanning software is running during the installation.

Did you already try to install GFI Network Server Monitor on a different machine?

Nicks,

As i said, i have an evaluation copy of version 5 installed on this same machine. Now the evaluation period has expired. I want to try the beta version 5.5 to evaluate the new features but the installation stops at:

"Generating script operations for action:

Stopping services..."

Is this because I have an expired evaluation of version 5?

Yes I have administrative rights and anti virus software is not running.

kaynam,

If you had GFI Network Server Monitor version 5, and the evaluation period of this version has expired, you would not be able to evaluate GFI Network Server Monitor 5.5 on the same machine. You can install to a different machine though.

You can export the configuration from the old installation, and import it into the new version.
