Hello,

I make a dedicated thread because I'd like to get an answer to this particular problem, hoping it's linked to my service-not-starting problem.

The TEMP folder in Program Files\GFI\Network Server Monitor 7\ is full of log files although logs are disabled.

The folder takes minutes to open, there are more than 250 000 files, that all say "TRUE".

May I delete those file and prevent GFI from creating them.

Thanks.

PJ

It looks like it did the trick !

But I'd like to know how to disable this log because it generates about 600 files a day, all saying "TRUE" !

Thanks.

PJ

dear Pj, i also had the same problem about that temp folder, but it wasn't in NSM. i faced it in Mail Archiver but i think this issue is kinda common in gfi eve though it's so rare to face it...
well, i solved it but i donno if the same way works in NSM or not... we have NSM but i haven't faced it yet.

what i did was, i renamed the original Temp folder as a TempOrigin and i created a new folder in the same path and i named it Temp. gfi mail archiver is set to deal with a folder called Temp, so once i renamed the new folder to Temp, it starts archiving and the size of Temp changed a little bit which is normal and i got back to the Old Temp folder which i renamed it as a TempOrigin and i deleted the contents.
problem solved :) but why it grows for some unknown reason?? well, you can try the same way in NSM...
good luck

Thanks for your message !

In fact, I just moved files from TEMP folder to another one (just in case) but even this took ages !

I had no problem since.

Now, I just checked and I already have 10700 files from 20/04/09 !!

GFI Team, TELL ME HOW TO STOP THIS LOGGING !

Pjgfi, could you give me a sample of how do the files from your Temp folder look like?

Sure !

Here's the name of the files :
00000078-0B2AEA81.LOG
00000078-0B290ECC.LOG
....

And here's the FULL content of each file :
TRUE

Pjgfi, those are the files in which are written the results of the vbscripts executed by the NSM checks. Usually those files are erased just after the vbscript execution ended, except the case when the result file already exists or if the temp vbscript file cannot be opened or when the result file deletion failed.

Thanks for the information.

Any idea on how to get rid of those ? Clear temp folder ?

I'll have a look at the checks if this script is of any use...

EDIT : I should find some "Generic VB Script" check, right ? Can't find any !

Yes the Generic VB Script are the checks using vbscripts, but there are other predefined checks that are using vbscripts behind the scenes.

I don't think that clearing the Temp folder would not help, because new files will be generated by NSM when vbscripts checks are executed. The solution would be to see which of the situations from above is happening.

Do you have debug logging enabled for NSM?

Can't find how to activate logs for NSM in the KB...

I see two interesting keys in registry :
Debug
DebugLevel

but I'd like to know precisely what DebugLevel does before I put some 1s there !

Pjgfi, yes those are the keys you should alter to enable the debug logging. You will have to set the Debug to 1 and the DebugLevel to 3 and then restart the NSM services. After the restart NSM will start logging debugging information in the DebugLogs folder from the installation directory.

You can always disable the debug logging by setting de Debug and DebugLevel to 0 and restart he NSM services.

Thanks for the information, it's working.

Any idea where I should look for those errors ?

I think you should look into the CThreadCheckVbScript logs from the DebugLogs\NSMEngine files, and maybe you could post here on the forum a complete log for a check using a vbscript. It should be in one of the files mentioned before and it starts with a lot of “=” characters and it ends when a new check is starting, so again a log of equal signs. Please be careful to remove any sensitive data before doing this.

Thanks, I did not even notice the NSMEEngine folder !

Here's a log where I could find a temp file with the same ID. It looks like EVERY VBscript check fails !

Pjgfi, from the log you’ve posted I can see that the check is running properly. Could you please tell me which build of NSM are you using? You can find this information in the main configuration window GFI Network Server Monitor -> General -> Version Information.
