My whitelist is being ignored - 8.Sep.2009 4:30:25 AM

Quite a few times lately I have added email address to the whitelist after finding blocked messages only to be told the item already exists.
I also want to allow pdf attachments through as valid orders and acknowledgements are being blocked. I have checked the registry settings and removed pdf from the
registry ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI\ME14\ATTCHECK\file_list ).
the filesize limit is 0.

Why isn't the whitelist working as I'd like it to and how can I allow pdf's through?

TIA

Su

Please check the priority the anti-spam modules. Probably the email/domain/auto-whitelist is located after the module that already blocks these mails.

The file_list registry key works in combination with the header check "Check if email contains attachment spam". If you remove pdf from the registry key pdf attachments will not be considered anymore by this check. Please note that you should do an IISRESET and restart all MailEssentials services in order to apply this configuration change.

Thanks, I added them to my favourites.

Whitelist entries (even old ones) are still being ignored.

Su, just for curiosity, what is the size of your autowhitelist.mdb? Could you try repairing it with Access? Take a backup copy first of course!

In the debuglogs folder, you will find a number of debug files. The contents of ase* files pertaining to the email that should have been whitelisted would be useful.

sorry for the delay in replying.
It was over 16MB but now that I have repaired it it's only 3.4MB so I'll see if that has made a difference. There are over 29000 entries which is very close to the 30000 limit. Should I up the limit or try and trim down the list do you think.?

Trimming the list might be a good start; I think there was an issue with large whitelists.

Try the new patch that's just been released, too.

Hi all,

The patch RSP is referring to is the one below:
http://ftp.gfisoftware.com/patches/me14/20090826/ME141_PATCH_20090917_01.zip

This patch should be applied to installations of the following
builds of GFI MailEssentials 14.1 and above:

-> 20090826

Issues fixed:

1. This patch fixes an issue whereby the Whitelist entries are ignored and
  antispam filtering is still performed.

2. The MailEssentials Scan Engine crashes whilst processing the Whitelist
  entries.

I encourage anyone who experiences the issues noted above to install this patch.
