We need to move the existing database for Network Server Monitor 7 from an old SQL Server 2000 database instance running on another server to a new SQL Server 2005 database instance now running on the server where GFI Network Server Monitor 7 is running. Being a fairly new user of this product and not having done the original installation (the person who did that is long gone), what is the best way to do this? We want to be sure the data from the SQL 2000 instance is moved.

Also, we tried to do this using the database maintenance facility in NSM 7, however, in doing so the apparently the requisite NSM services are shut down as part of the process. During the shut down one of the processes hung (or, at least, we waited for at least 10-15 minutes and the service was still not shut down). If we use this facility again, how long should it take all the services to shut down and will the data from the old SQL Server 2000 database be moved to the new SQL Server 2005 database?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

The easiest way is to stop the GFI Network Server Monitor services (forcefully if necessary, it won't matter too much.) Then simply detach the database from one SQL server, and re-attach it to the new one (these steps are all done within SQL, right click the database choose Detach.)

Once done - with the services still off - open GFI Network Server Monitor and point GFI to the new SQL server.
