Monioring after maintenace period

Status: offline 		Its nice to stop reporting during a maintenace period but is it possible to have the actual monitoring stopped during this time instead?

What is happening is that services are stopped during maintenace periods to do backups or whatever but if the service errors and does not come backup then there is no notification of this as it has already reported (but not notified) that there is a failure during the maintenace times.

Hope this makes sence
