Over the past few weeks there has been a massive increase in the amount of spam getting thru to Inboxes. Is there a reason for this?

The spammers are sending more?

Could you be specific? Headers etc?

Nope, no huge increase in amount of spam in total, just a huge increase getting thru ME.

All types of SPAM, the Watches, Viagra, investment, software... you name it....

Run IISRESET - sounds like the filters have stopped.

I've noticed something similar to this too.

Our spam hit has been spot on with almost nothing slipping past the filters and into the user's inboxes. However, things seem to have changed and several key users sitting on high-profile addresses are receiving a lot more than normal and not being picked up by ME.

I have yet to investigate why this is (and it could easily be a huge increase by spammers) but they all seem to be HTML emails formed around a single URL, occasionally plain text with the URL in view. These should be caught easily on reflection.

If i find anything, i will update.

Regards

Pop

swfblade,

If you look in the GFI Monitor do you see anything that is processing unsuccessful?

I have this same issue. We've been running all of them through the Basyian analysis wizard but it still doesn't block the messages. They consist of a message body with either random words followed by a URL or they only a URL. I've watched them and they come through the GFI Monitor as "item processed ok".

I had this issue, but mine was due to Mail Essentials auto white list feature.  What it ended up doing was white listing a lot of internal email addresses for my users, which the net effect was that any SPAM that had a spoofed email addresses matching an entry in my auto white list would get through.  It was a real pain to clean up and I had to go into the mdb file itself to find the entries (as it didn't allow an export to an excel file from the auto white list).

Newfood - I wrote a ME Whitelist management tool in VB that you are welcome to try.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I haven't had a chance to update ME to version 14 yet, so I don't know how it works with that.

Sounds like a good idea, but I couldn't get it to work.

Probably a combination of using ME 14 and Vista as my client machine.   I was hesitant to install it directly on the ME server.

Thanks for the offer though.
