I just installed MailSecurity build 20090526 to avoid the AVG scan issue.  (Normally, I avoid installing GFI updates until I verify that they don't cause more issues.  )  However, I decided to get this out of the way in advance of an upcoming vacation.

To my dismay, the fix seems to cause the very problem it's supposed to prevent - all emails are now going into my failedmail folder.

I am running on a gateway server, with ME 12 installed also.  I did not uninstall the original version of MailSec first.  That is my next step.  Because I know that's what GFI tech support will tell me anyway.

Hi Shelby,

Although emails going to failedmails should rarely happen, emails would be saved in the FailedMails folder when MailSecurity is not able to scan such emails. This mechanism ensures that only legitimate emails are received by the users.

We shall be contacting you on the case that you have opened in with our support team.

Thank you.

Hi Nicholas,

same thing here. Just installed this particuar build on a server running SBS 2003 R2 with all the lates updates and emails go straight to the failed mail folder. FYI, we did an in-place upgrade from the previous build.

Disabling the AVG engine sorts out the problem - but this is no real solution to this never ending problem.

Hi,

Our support team has been in contact with Shelby and jonathan_vella.

shelby re-installed GFI MailSecurity which solved the problem.

jonathan_vella disabled the AVG scanning engine while we investigate this issue further.

We'll keep this post updated with our findings, however we confirmed that the problem is not the same as the one which is addressed in GFI MailSecurity 10 SR9 build 20090526.

Thank you.

Well, I have two different servers running MS10. One was an older build, and had no issues, but the other has had the AVG issue for a few months now. Both were set up indentically, but one is running Windows 2000, the other, Windows 2003.

Now, back in February we had this issue with the Bit Defender engine, but an update solved that. However, a short time later it started happening again. This time we traced it back to the AVG engine. Again, this was only on one of our servers. So, I tried updating again, but it still didn't work. At this point, I just shut off the AVG engine. Everything has been running fine since. Now, I get the notice that I have to install the new build to fix this issue. I did an in-place upgrade last night, but waited until this morning to turn AVG back on. At 7:30 AM, AVG was enabled. By 12:00 PM, mail stopped flowing again. All emails sit in the Messages Pending Submision queue. Once I disabled AVG, and restarted the gfiscan.exe service, mail started flowing again.

So, this is the third time that GFI has failed in the past 4 months. Is it possible to get a product that works? Because each re-install or upgrade requires a reboot, I am forced to work on this issue at night or on weekends. Quite frankly, I am getting sick of spending my free time fixing your product. Maybe it's time to start shopping for a new product. For now, I'll keep running it with the subscription I paid for disabled. Nothing like throwing money away in this economy.

Thanks,
Tim

Just a side topic here...do you find the AVG AV module worth purchasing over any of the others that are offered?  We have used Norman and Bitdefender.  I'd like to use the Kaspersky but the license we've continually rolled has worked well for us.

I haven't had the AVG issue ever start up...obviously I'm not using the engine.  I'm going to take the leap and update to the latest MS now...we'll see what flies.
