Hey everyone, I have a question in regards to updating Mail Essentials when you are upgrading your Exchange Environment from 2003 to 2007. Which comes first? Do you get Mail Essentials and Security running on a 64bit windows...then upgrade exchange and go through that transition? What is the best way... If any of you have done it, i'd love to know what you ran into during that process! I currently have the latest MS 10 running on the same box that runs the latest ME12 as our SMTP gateway...it then forwards things into our smarthost exchange server. Once its there, it goes through our organization. Thanks!

Ytsejamer1, The easiest upgrade process from 32bit to 64bit would be to follow these steps: Moving GFI MailEssentials from a 32-bit machine to a 64-bit machine The information in this article applies to: GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP 12 GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP 14 Article ID: KBID003262 Query keywords: 64-bit, move, upgrade Proceed as follows to move your installation of GFI MailEssentials 12 from a 32-bit machine to a 64-bit machine and retain your current configuration settings: - On the 32-bit machine ensure that you are running the latest build of GFI MailEssentials 12. You can verify this from the GFI MailEssentials configuration -> 'General' -> 'Version Information' -> 'Check for latest version'.
- Use the ‘GFI MailEssentials Import/Export tool’ to export the GFI MailEssentials configuration from the 32-bit machine. The Import/Export Tool can be launched from 'meconfigmgr.exe' located in the GFI MailEssentials directory.
- Install GFI MailEssentials 12 on the 64-bit machine.
- Use the ‘GFI MailEssentials Import/Export tool’ to import the GFI MailEssentials configuration exported in step 2.
- Run through the GFI MailEssentials 12 post installation wizard. This can be launched from ‘e2k7wiz.exe’ located in the GFI MailEssentials directory.
Note: - When moving GFI MailEssentials on to a 64-bit machine, you need to ensure that the machine is running Microsoft Exchange 2007. The GFI MailEssentials 12 requirements are available in the GFI MailEssentials manual.
- Information on how to move GFI MailEssentials to a different server and retain the current configuration can be found in the Knowledge Base article: KBID002122
- To install GFI MailEssentials to a new server using a different user retrieval method check the knowledge base article: KBID002430

Thanks John...appreciate the details, but I'm still a bit in the dark...which comes first? As I have right now, I have GFI 12 running on a separate box running the SMTP service, which sends it over to my exchange smarthost. It seems a chicken/egg syndrome..if I get my first Exchange 2007 box in, then what happens in between when I finally have the exchange 2k7 system up and get over to upgrading to x64 ME14? Am I not able to send email in from my old GFI system and a new smarthost or will it continue to send to my smarthost whichis running EX03? I guess I'm not sure of if I have to set up an Edge transport box NOT on the domain (Our current gateway IS on the domain) and install GFI 14 x64 on that, then pass that to a Hub Transport box (Bridgehead)...and so on and so forth. I also run Mail Security on the gateway machine... It just seems like it makes more sense to have a box running the GFI stuff and point that to the Hub Transport rather than an extra link...guess I'm not visualizing it.
