Recently I've received complaint about a vast amount of junk mails are sent to the users.  After a bit of investigating, I've found that GFI MailEssentials 12 were unable to process emails and i get a lot of

quote:

Item processing unsuccessful: item will not be modified


From the look of it, outgoing emails are being processed okay, but none of the incomming mails could be processed successfully.

I've went through some KB articles and I found that in c:\windows\temp there are a lot of JET*.tmp file (but no where near the 65000 limit as mentioned), howerver, what I found is that all of the JET*.tmp are 0KB.

A large amount of junks has went through the system already and we urgently need to have MailEssentials up and running again.

Also, there's no anti-virus scanner scanning the GFI directories.

Please help.

Please do the following and let me know how it goes:

1.  Stop all of the GFI MailEssentials services
2.  Delete all of the JET.tmp files located in your Windows temp folder (C:\Windows\Temp)
3.  Start all of the GFI MailEssentials servers
4.  Restart IIS and all of the dependencies (Open a command prompt and perform iisreset or restart the server)

John,

I had issue when I was trying to stop the GFI MailEssentails services, which in the end caused a fail-over of my exchange cluster.

Once everything is back online, the spam filter seems to operate as normal.

The same problem here.

I have stopped all GFI MailEssentials services, but I was not able to delete all the JET*.tmp files. About 10 files was in use of some process... ?

Any idea?

Kristina,

Is your email server clustered?  I think what happened for me is that when I tried to stop the GFI MailEssentials services, clusteradmin actually tried to restart it.

See if you can stop the GFI MailEssentials Services in cluadmin?

Same issue here on 20080508, then tech support had me install the beta version, it worked for a couple of days, now its all messed up again. Reverting back to 20080508.
