My company still needs to run a monthly user e-mail cleanups and the eseutil utility.

This software has not lowered my data store size at all. It has in turn created a huge SQL database. We have more data not less.
I would like to see this software remove data from the exchange store based on removal filters and store it inside of the SQL DB. We want to keep 2 weeks of data in the store for every person and the rest be kept in the SQL archive DB.

Archiving software should be invisible to the user and empower IT with less time needed to maintain the users and Exchange Store; which is the reason why we purchased this software. We have found that things are exactly the same except now we don't have PST's. We just have ton's of data and we have to tell some users to clean out their boxes daily, weekly and monthly.

Importing PST's from within a users account! A MUST HAVE.

More filtering! A robust SQL management console for removing attachments or deleting them as soon as they are archived. WMV,MOV,ASF etc etc etc.. filter filter filter......
Q: If one person e-mails a WMV file to 20 people in the company are their 20 copies archived for each person?????

More access to archived data from OWA and outlook. A simple Added folder would work great. Logon's can be used using Domain logon credentials or just open up to the web page. Either or would be great.

One important thing to remember is that this software's main goal is to store a copy of every message that comes into and leaves Exchange. It is no way intended to reduce the size of the Exchange DB in anyway. It is still completely up to you to manage email retention and such at the Exchange level.

That said, there's certainly more that GFI could do with the interface. Right now I manually poke into the SQL database and write custom queries to get information out but of course your average user isn't expected to be able to do this. The problem that you run into is that GFI stores everything and unless you want every user to be able to access every other user's email you start to have problems. SQL doesn't allow you to store ACL's at the row level and while GFI could arbitrarily store some permission structure it would probably get messy pretty quick.

But hopefully there will be some more filtering options on the server soon, such as "don't archive based on criteria <x>" or "check if the attachment has been stored once already and if so only store a reference to it" (http://forums.gfi.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=13;t=000092)

David,

As a customer of other GFI products I'm also looking at MA.
I see youÆre mentioning version 3. Do you have any release info about this new version.

Hi Marc,

At this point in time it is still a bit early for us to release more details on GFI MailArchiver 3 however I can assure you that a lot of new features (also mentioned here) will be implemented.

So do I have to wait until MA 3 is released or may I upgrade at no additional cost if I buy MA 2 today?

Our Exchange 2003 servers are clustered, and I imagine that most new Exchange installations would be also, so I recommend you add this capability in your next release. This is a show-stopper for my agency with 10,000 users.
