Fax machines typically allow entry of characters that cannot be used in the local-part of email addresses. I have two fax machines trying to send me faxes (every few minutes) that create email addresses like (414(xxx-yyyyATfaxmakerDOTcom. Exchange correctly rejects these emails since the paren "(" character is not allowed in email addresses according to RFC 2822. 1. I suggest the faxmaker be modified to delete illegal characters before it creates the email address. 2. Is there some way I can handle this in the meantime? The fax never appears to be received. Gary

gsprenger@anewhealth.com Well in your FAxmaker Configuration please expand down Advanced and then go to the Junk Fax Filter. There please enter the exact CSID for the two machines that are sending these. Then restart your Faxmaker Services. Let me know how this works.

Thanks for the reply Joe. Unfortunately, this is ineffective. Both smtp_in_log.txt and fmmta_gfi_log.txt continue to show these errors respectively. (smtp_in_log.txt) 2008-06-12,08-39-30,Fax received from (414(258-9737,'414258-9737' <'(414(258-9737'@faxmaker.com>,'GArmata@anewhealth.com' <GArmata@anewhealth.com>,Failed - The server rejected the sender address. Gsprenger, Are you uploading to an exchange server or to an ISP hosted mail service?

gsprenger@anewhealth.com In your Faxmaker Configuration under Email to Fax Gateway. What are your settings. Please post them. Its more important to know what you have in there than actually what is in there ie (mail server IP) not that actual ip.

Joe, Mail Server name / IP Port is 127.0.0.1 and 25 I have created a SMTP Authentication / password for FAXMaker to use and entered them. The account has admin privileges. Use SSL and Secure Password Authentication are unchecked. Enable POP3 Connector is unchecked. Gary

gsperenger@anewhealth.com I would believe unless you have set up your server to require SMTP authentication that you do not need it. Please remove the SMTP Auth and restart your faxmaker services to see if that clears up your issue.

Joe, Removed the SMTP Authentication and manually restarted the FAXServer services (two right?). No effect on the problem. Gary

gsprenger@anewhealth.com, Please add the following DWORD value to your registry key Key: [HKLM\SOFTWARE\GFI FAX & VOICE\FAXmaker\Config] DWORD Value Name: NoQuotedAddressSpec Type: DWORD Value: 1 Then restart both of your GFI FAXmaker services. This should parse out all of the illegal SMTP characters when GFI FAXmaker is creating the SMTP address. Please let us know how this works out for you. Thanks very much!

Thanks Eddie, that fixed it. I appreciate all the help. (I'm placing the SMTP authentication back the way it was...doesn't that change prevent sending faxes via email?)
