Installation problems with x64 version - 6.Jul.2008 7:56:03 PM

Downloaded the x64 installer, and ran it: the InstallShield wizard came up, and ended with a Windows Installer window showing Windows Installer syntax, and just an OK button. Nothing was installed. I'm installing it on an Exchange 2007 x64 machine, which has all roles on the same machine.

Anti-virus was turned off.

A few other questions:
1. Our Exchange 2007 server has all roles on the same machine: on p19 it says that MailArchiver can't be installed on the Edge Server role. I take it that this doesn't apply in this case. It also says that IMAP must be enabled if you're installing it on the Client Access role: I take it that this also doesn't apply as on p76 it talks about using ExOLEdb if you're on the same machine.
2. Is there any compatibility issues if you're also using IIS on the same machine for OWA access for clients?
3. We may be changing our main internet domain name shortly. Are there any issues there?
4. ASP.NET registered with IIS (p8): Surely one would use the x64 version rather than the x32 version?

OwenWatson,

If you go into the directory where you extracted the setup files and run the msi is the setup able to get further?

I've downloaded the installer .exe file to the desktop: no sign of any msi files.

OwenWatson,

When you run the installer it will prompt you to extract the installation files.  The folder that you extract this to should contain the msi file.

The installer starts, then goes into the Windows Installer dialog I talked about: no mention of where to put the installer files.

OwenWatson,

Let's give this a try:

STEP A:

1. Follow "Method 2: Reinstall the Windows Installer" found on the following Microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346 and then REBOOT the machine.

STEP B:

1. Download and install WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64.exe from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en and then REBOOT the machine.

STEP C:

1. Re-download the 64-bit installation of GFI MailArchiver 5 from the GFI website and attempt to install it again.

Let me know how this goes.

What you've proposed is a lengthy procedure (about 5 restarts on an Exchange 2007 machine is not trivial) so are you sure that will work?

OwenWatson,

I am not certain that this will resolve the issue you are facing but there is a chance it may.  I have seen this resolve issues like this previously.

Installed the v6 beta and no problems with Installer, so I assume it's not a Windows Installer issue.

Any idea when 6 will be ready for installing on a production server?

Looks good so far, but could you send me a new key? The existing one I have is no longer valid.

It's installed fine. Could you:

1. Give John a kick for suggesting it was an Windows Installer problem. His suggested fix would have taken many hours of work and wouldn't have worked anyway.

2. Give whoever wrote the GFI installer for this product a kick: who uses C:\Temp these days?

Ta!
