Good afternoon!

For me a problem with indexing, I will try to describe.

So:

There is an active base on MSSQL, the size - 96 GB, at reindexing attempt - reaches to 21000 indexed letters for 2 hours and hangs up. In such state passes 2 days - no changes. For this time process sqlsrv has 50% CPU load all time. Attachments index has disabled, debug mode enabled.

Try to rebuild many times, no result..

Another base, about 10 GB rebild index very fast, no problem.

I ask for help!

Thanks!

Servers config:

1. WS2008SP2 X64 - Exchange 2007 SP1 X64 CAS, HUB

2. WS2008SP2 X64 - Exchange 2007 SP1 X64 MB (Node1)

3. WS2008SP2 X64 - Exchange 2007 SP1 X64 MB (Node2)

4. WS2008SP2 X64 - GFI MA X64 6.1 (Build 20090526), SQL2005 SP2 X64,
(XEON 5520, 6GB DDR3, 3 SAS Drive: 1 - OS + SQL; 2 - BASE; 3 - INDEX + LOGS)

Try switching off debug mode.

The database server might just not be fast enough for the workload.

What's the disk utilisation like whilst it's indexing ?

See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc966534.aspx

Did you get the same problem with 6.0?

Thanks for your answer!

Phisical drive time not over 10%, and this is not linked with problem, because after 5hrs of starting new index job, index count grow util is rich 21000 and just stop. After this SQL Server process utilize 100% one core time, and index no more grow. I see the logs and find the same cyclic messages (see up).

I use next configuration:
VM in Hyper-V enviroment with 3 SAS Phisical Disks linked

1. Drive (SAS 15K): System + SQL Install
2. Drive (SAS 15K): Active database (MDF)
3. Drive (SAS 15K): Indexes and database logs (LDF)

Have upgrade to 16GB RAM, but no change...

At this time, i do new import job of emails that not indexed in new base, and have good result. But affraid, what i'll do if problem come back again..

Jeers!

Have a check to make sure that attachment indexing is still switched off. If you ever do an upgrade of GFI it will revert to it's default (attachments = indexed)

If it's possible try and split the database into 2 smaller ones e.g. "EV 2009 Q1 Jan - Mar" and "EV 2009 Q2 Apr - Jun"

Hi tiv

Have you sorted this indexing problem yet?
Do you have the binaries kept on the file system or included in the SQL database?

If its fixed what was your resolution?

Thanks

ewctm38,

Are you having similar problems with your indexing? I don't want to leave you out in the cold in case tiv does not answer back in the forum thread since it does appear to be a bit old. Would it be possible to post some of your indexjob.log?

Hi John

I have a case opened for this - GFI Case GFI-090702-8537.
Brett has been looking at this since May this year.

I was getting the same time outs error in the index log.

Cheers
