Hi. I'm using the incremental backup option so only changed files are backuped up. I've been running a task daily for 44 days and it's created 44 backup files and now my hard drive is full. (About half the files are changed each day) I don't want it to create so many backup files because it will go on endlessly and fill my drive - which is what has happened. Is there any way it can stop making incremental backups after, say, 7 backups have been made and to delete the old ones and start again with a full backup then the incremental ones please? Better still, if it can create N number of backup sets consisting of N number of incremental backups and automatically delete the backup sets that are no longer required. It just needs a bit of built-in backup management, unless I've overlooked a hidden feature? Otherwise everything is absolutely brilliant! Thank you.

Gary, you must be using ZIP compression, in this case, each time you modify at least one file from the source - a new INC ZIP file will be written. If you disable ZIP compression, the changed files will just replace the old files in the backup. You can force a full backup at each 7 days, but you'll have to do it manually. Edit the task and go to the "Options" tab. You'll see there a "Force Full Backup" button. If you use it, the next run of the backup will create a full backup, instead of an incremental one.

Hi Eugen. I need to use zip compression to save space and password protect the files. I saw the button to manually take a full backup which I noticed deleted all the previous files, but there are 2 problems with this: 1) I have to remember to manually press the button every week. It's not automated. 2) It deletes the previous backup files when it does the next backup, thus doesn't leave me with a copy of the previous backup in case the new one gets corrupted or I need to access an older file. It would be really useful if GFI Backup could retain a given number of backup sets and delete the oldest set when a new full one is created. Also if it could automatically create a new set of incremental backups after a given number of backups. This would be really useful to help keep disk space requirements down, to retain a certain number of previous backup sets for disaster recovery & accidental deletion/modification of files, and to have it all automated. Should I post this somewhere else as a feature request? Thanks.

This is a fantastic application, it just needs attention to a few of these little automation details...

We got a few requests to do this, and we are planning to add this feature in a future version of GFI Backup. Stay tuned.
