Hi all,

I hope someone can help me out here
I've been testing the public folder scanning via IMAP on a kerio mailserver and keep failing the test eventhough public folder scanning should be possible with the kerio mail server (v6.5)

Obviously its difficult to decide if it is the GFI or the KERIO application that is having trouble so i've posted it both here and on the kerio forum.

Currently i am testing kerio mailserver 6.5 with GFI mail essentials.
I've setup GFI to check the spam and it works quite nicely but I cannot scan the public folders due to the following error i receive:

"The IMAP test failed for the following reason:
Could not connect to <ip address>
NAMESPACE command is not supported or more than one shared namespace is present."

Problem is, i don't know if this error is caused by Kerio mail server (GFI does connect) or the gfi application.

i've just changed debuggin to include imap traffic on the mailserver and this is what i see:

28/Mar/2008 12:24:45][1636] {imaps} User xxx<_a.t_>xxx.xxx logged in
[28/Mar/2008 12:24:45][1636] {imaps} Command x0001 CAPABILITY
[28/Mar/2008 12:24:48][1636] {imaps} Session end while reading line because remote host closed the connection.
[28/Mar/2008 12:24:48][1636] {imaps} Server session end

as you can see, i connect fine (log in) but it looks like GFI closes the session, has anyone else seen this behaviour and if so, what is the cause/solution?

hi,
I usually configure GFI products with exchange, I met kerio only a couple of times and I have always had a lot of problems (the kerio connector to oulook is pretty bugged for example, using Outlook+MAPI+Kerio is a pain, ...).
With these kind of problems I'd point to kerio

Stefano

while this might have some truth in it (older connectors were not that great but this one is a lot more stable), I still do not know what the cause of this is. I can't find an option in GFI to debug the test so i can see what is send out and recieved.
Reason why i want to step away from exchange is because I like the features I have with kerio + gfi antispam (user management via webpage and public folder white/blacklisting to name but an example)

Hello Yokidrink,

In the MailEssentials DebugLogs folder you will find RPFolders.gfi_log.txt. This file can be used for Troubleshooting purposes.

The error you receive when you test the connection: "NAMESPACE command is not supported or more than one shared namespace is present" is the same response Exchange 2007 will give when you try to use IMAP to publish the Public Folders because it does not support it. If you are sure your Kerio server does support this you might want to try http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002189.

If it keeps failing and you know that your Kerio does support this use of IMAP, maybe you can change the rpfolders Registry set (found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI\ME12\Attendant\rpfolders:8).
You can create a new value called 'SharedNamespace' (without the quotes) with a String that will reflect the SharedNamespace your Kerio server supports.
If the name of the namespace contains non-ASCII characters, it must be encoded in Modified BASE64 as specified in IMAP RFC2060.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

JanZoet,

Thanks for your input. I am trying to tackle this problem also from their side but not getting much response. I'll give your solution a shot this afternoon.

Ok, i've checked my logfile after i made a test:

2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,3,"#00000490","#00000828","info   ","RPFolders","PITrail: CAPABILITY[* CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 IDLE ACL LITERAL+ UIDPLUS QUOTA ID SORT ANNOTATE ANNOTATEMORE STATUS-COUNTERS UNSELECT LISTEXT STARTTLS AUTH=CRAM-MD5 AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=LOGIN AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=NTLM]"
2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,3,"#00000490","#00000828","info   ","RPFolders","PITrail: CAPABILITY[x0002 OK CAPABILITY completed]"
2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,1,"#00000490","#00000828","error  ","RPFolders","ProcessInternal: NAMESPACE command is not supported"
2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,2,"#00000490","#00000828","warning","RPFolders","ProcessInternal: critical flag is set, processing is disabled"
2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,1,"#00000490","#00000828","error  ","RPFolders","Process: ProcessInternal failed[0x80004005]"
2008-04-01,15:04:13,359,3,"#00000490","#00000828","info   ","RPFolders","Process: entering wait state...

so indeed, the namespace command is not supported by Kerio

Hello yokidrink,

Thank you for your reply.

In that case you will have to configure the 'SharedNamespace' Registry Key I mentioned previously.
Maybe Kerio support can tell you the NameSpace it supports.

Kind regards,

thanks, kerio is quite non responsive tbh.
can you give a bit more info about  the settings in the registry?

I've done a list command on the mailserver and got this result:

? CAPABILITY
* CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 IDLE ACL LITERAL+ UIDPLUS QUOTA ID SORT ANNOTATE AN
NOTATEMORE STATUS-COUNTERS UNSELECT LISTEXT AUTH=CRAM-MD5 AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=LOGIN
AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=NTLM
? OK CAPABILITY completed
? LIST "" "*"
* LIST () "/" "INBOX"
* LIST () "/" "Deleted Items"
* LIST () "/" "Drafts"
* LIST () "/" "Junk E-mail"
* LIST () "/" "Sent Items"
* LIST (\Noselect) "/" "Public Folders"
* LIST (\Noselect) "/" "Archive Folders"
? OK LIST completed

does this give the info required to create the key in the registry?

Hello yokidrink,

Sorry for the delay in my reply.
Can you create the 'SharedNamespace' value in the rpfolders:8 registry folder I described previously and give it the string 'Public Folders' (without the quotes) and check if it works?
(I'm not  sure if this will work but it's worth a shot)

Did you get any response from Kerio regarding your question?

Kind regards,
