I was comparing Mail Security & Mail Essentials reports between each other and discovered something odd. Mail Essentials reports that for the current month, we have processed 3,408,864 emails. Mail Security Report Center for the current month reports 1,176,128 mails. Why would there be such a difference? Doesn't Mail Security scan *all* incoming mail before Mail Essentials does its work?

Hello itsupport@zagat.com, This does indeed sound very weird. Normally you would expect that MailSecurity will report more e-mails processed than MailEssentials: http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002646. Is it possible that you somewhere in this month changed the reporting database of MailSecuirty and the MailSecurity ReportPack? What report gave you these findings? Kind regards,

Jan - It's good to hear from you again. I'm looking at it more closely now, it looks like on April 10th the database changed to a new copy. The current reports.mdb is 13 days old and 440MB large, the other DB (reports_20080410210608.mdb) had about a month's worth of data. The report I ran was a custom report, for the current month (april 1-22), "Monthly Processed & Blocked Emails". If the reporter only looks at "reports.mdb" then how can it take 'archived' data into account, especially for running reports when there is years worth of data for mail flow analysis, growth, etc? This doesn't seem to make much sense. MailEssentials Reporter has the same "problem" where it only looks at its reports.mdb, but no 'archived' data. I had submitted a feature request where ME could use that data for reporting.

Hello itsupport@zagat.com, One of the limitations of Access is that it does not perform any maintenance automatically. If you use the Compact and Repair functionality of Access you will probably notice that the database reduces considerably in size meaning that you can add more data to it. You might want to start using SQL databases as reports databases for MailEssentials and MailSecurity. If you do not have a SQL server you can even use the free version (SQL Express). Using a SQL database would be more efficient and will allow you to store more data. Kind regards,
