New Features in GFI LANguard 9.0:
  • New UI enabling users to better understand and access product capabilities:
    • Scan the network to perform vulnerability assessment and retrieve relevant security information.
    • Analyze the results and generate reports.
    • Remediate the security issues that were detected.
  • New & improved remediation options:
    • Uninstall un-authorized software.
    • Open remote desktop connections on scanned computers.
    • Auto-remediation can be configured at the end of scheduled scans:
      • Automatic deployment of missing Microsoft Security updates.
      • Automatic uninstall of un-authorized applications.
  • Hardware audit – retrieval of information about: memory, processors, display adapters, storage devices, motherboard, printers, etc.

  • Improved reporting – executive reports are available now directly from within the application (if Reports Pack is installed on the same computer)

  • Improved user experience with scans in progress: 
    • Estimation of the time remaining for the scan to complete.
    • Centralization of all errors encountered during a scan so that users will instantly see on which machines the scan failed and why.
  • Virtual machines detection (VMware and Virtual PC supported)

  • NEW: Improved proxy support - a dialog is now available for manual proxy configuration
  • NEW: Licensing - Freeware mode with a limit of maximum 5 scanned computers
  • NEW: Security scanner - Warning displayed when the LNSS_MONITOR_USR account does not have sufficient privileges
  • NEW: Security scanner - New scan target type supported: scan computers in text file
  • NEW: Scanning profiles -> Patches: support for configuring patches for all supported languages
  • NEW: Warning displayed when the GFI LANguard computer has no Internet access

  • UPDATED: Automatic remediation - Improved timeout handling for auto-uninstall validation
  • UPDATED: Database maintenance options - displays information about license limitations
  • UPDATED: Dashboard - Scheduled Security Scans: displays a proper state when waiting for offline computers
  • UPDATED: Improved application start-up speed
  • UPDATED: Improved context help
  • UPDATED: Other cosmetic and ease-of-use improvements
  • UPDATED: Patch deployment - Computers where deployment fails are highlighted in the deployment status window
  • UPDATED: Program updates - scheduled updates that fail because files are in use are postponed
  • UPDATED: Security scanner - Scan Summary reports user-interrupted scans accordingly
  • UPDATED: Security scanner - Start page now has improved support for starting quick scans
  • UPDATED: Security scanner - performance improvements
  • UPDATED: Scan results - Virtual machines are highlighted in the scan results tree
  • UPDATED: Vulnerability assessment - Improved support for Python scripting

  • FIXED: Automatic remediation - Redundant email notifications were being sent when new patches became available
  • FIXED: Enumerate users/enumerate computers - Application crash when using Active Directory on Windows Server 2008
  • FIXED: Microsoft updates deployment - Command line switches were not set correctly for a category of patches in Uninstall Microsoft Patches
  • FIXED: Patch auto-download - Access Violation errors causing GFI LANguard 9 Attendant service to crash
  • FIXED: Results filtering - Virtual Machines report was not working
  • FIXED: Security scanner - Occasional application crash while performing large scans
  • FIXED: Security Scanner - Occasional failures when performing reverse DNS lookup operations while scanning
  • FIXED: Security Scanner/Enumerate Computers - 0 computers detected in workgroups with Windows Server 2008
  • FIXED: Scheduled scans - "Wait for offline computers" was not working correctly when the target was specified by hostname

Status: offline 		GFI LANguard 9.0 Service Release 2 (build 20090709) has been released and is available for download. Together with main product was released also the free add-in for reporting: GFI LANguard 9.0 ReportPack.

Changes within this release include:
  • NEW: Localization to German and Italian languages
  • NEW: Added support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 RC and Microsoft Windows 7 RC
  • NEW: Security scanner - new visual elements that suggest how fast scanned computers respond to commands
  • NEW: General > Licensing: overview of scanned computers
  • FIXED: Security scanner - occasionally during large scans the limit of simultaneous TCP port connections is reached causing the port scanner to report wrong results
  • FIXED: Security scanner - incorrect detection of installed applications on 64-bit operating systems
  • FIXED: Scheduled scans - email report message is sent multiple times
  • UPDATED: Patch deployment - option to save patch deployment settings between application sessions
  • UPDATED: Security scanner - errors encountered during network discovery are now saved with the rest of the scan results
  • UPDATED: Utilities - options are more easily accessible
