Very simple really. I have a scheduled backup for 6pm every Friday evening. I do have the "Reschedule task if missed" ticked but I can assure you the task has run successfully at least twice. However, every time I open Windows - the task runs! Regardless of the time or day! Note, it runs successfully. I have noted an anomaly also, when I review the task in the GFI GUI it says "Next runtime 30/10/2009 18:00:25" that was a couple of weeks ago when I set it up - how can the next runtime be in the past?

Hello fuzzyfreak I will need more information to be able to debug this. Please send me your .GTB and .LOG files of the task that is causing this situation. You can find out how to do that here.

Hello fuzzyfreak I've received your email. Try to go to My Task in GFI Backup - Home Edition and double-click on that task in order to edit it. Then go to Scheduler tab and see if the settings are the way you wanted... Then save the task. See now at what time it was scheduled for next running time.

No, that did not work. I then unchecked the "Run if missed" checkbox and this has stopped it running at each startup. This is not ideal and is obviously an issue that needs resolving. Thanks

Hello, I came here looking for an answer to the same problem, it does a backup every time I start the computer. I have it set to 'run every few days' (7 days) and 'reschedule task if missed'. Time set at 6PM.

21 days have passed since my last post, I am ready to give up on getting an answer. I guess I have got what I have paid for, time to start looking at another backup product methinks.

Hello fuzzyfreak You can reschedule the task if you say your next run time is set in the past.

Dumitru, your reply is not relevant to my issue. Both Tonewill and I are having the problem that so long as the "run if missed" is checked, the backup will run everytime we start our machines. I am not sure about Tonewill but I am running a very standard setup (WinXP SP3) so am surprised yours isn't doing the same - are you using the latest version? Try it!

ORIGINAL: Dumitru Hello tonewill What is your "Next runtime" of the task? Hello Dumitru, On the schedule tab I have all tasks set to run "on time" at 18:00. Is that what you're referring to? Like fuzzyfreak I'm using XP SP3.

Well. The one that you say it runs when you start Windows. Is it scheduled to run every few days or every few hours. And if the Next runtime date is in the past.

fuzzyfreak, tonewill - your problems are caused by tasks thaty were incorrectlly rescheduled. Somehow (as you already noticed) those task were scheduled to run "in the past". So, when GFI Backup starts (when you start the computer) - it thinks that those tasks should have run (in the past) and tries to run them, because they have "rescheduling if missed" checked. If you uncheck the option - the task won't run - same reason - the program think they should run "in the past". This problem seems to occur only in some special situations. We are currently investigate this issue and we are trying to see the causes of this problem. We thank you for your reports and the GBT/LOG files, those files are helping us a lot to narrow the scenarios.

Eugen, thanks for your comprehensive reply. I will try and recreate the job to see if that helps, unfortunately I selected specific files to backup and will have to try and duplicate the original job. I may give FBackup a try if you cannot resolve this for us.
