I would like to know if data blob support is planned for Firebird?  This would allow all archived e-mails to be stored in the firebird database instead of in hundreds of thousands of individual files on the hard drive.  This would make backups and restores of the archived e-mail MUCH faster.

I also seem to have found a bug.  The ampersand (&) character cannot be used as part of search string when searching through the mail archive.  It does not matter if the ampersand is enclosed in quotes or not.  The search will not return any results if an ampersand is included anywhere in the search string.  We would like this functionality as our accountants would like to be able to search based on bank names.  M&I bank is one search they would like to be able to save as a search folder.

Thanks!

Hello

Unfortunately Firebird is not as reliable as SQL server when it comes to the databases larger then 10 GB. Plus you can see a general performance degradation. Therefore it was decided to keep the emails outside of the database.

GFI MailArchiver 5 (available in Beta now) introduces a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy  (VSS) support that allows you to use a compatible backup software to make very efficient backups of the Firebird databases and indexes on the fly.

Thank you for reporting the search issue. We will be looking into this. For now I can suggest using a space (" ") character instead of the "&" in the searches.

Has there been any progress on the ampersand issue? This seems like somewhat of a critical oversight.
