Hi,

I have this problem on Mail Security 9.0 build 20051123:

Attachment Checking
File category mismatch (Claimed extension "xls" - Claimed category "XLS" - Detected category "HTM")

The file is xls and it is OK, so I made assotiations per http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID001922 and restarted services, but still the same.

Any idea?

Thanks

Zoran

Hello, Zoran

If you try opening your xls file in notepad rather than in Excel, will it actually show up as HTML document ? Excel allows to save its spreadsheets in HTML format while retaining .xls extension.

Max Sushchenko.

HI Max,

That is correct. In notepad it shows as html code, it opens in excel and in IE and looks like a normal spreadsheet document. But why xls-htm assotiation does not work? Anyway it is the first message with this problem and I just approved it.

Thank you.

Zoran

Hello, Zoran

I guess you are referring to "BlockByAssocExceptions" registry key. By default, there is no "xls-htm" association. And the knowledge base article you mentioned only applies to .doc files being detected as .rtf or .txt files. To add this association you will need to follow same steps described in the article and add ",[5]" to "xls" registry value under "BlockByAssocExceptions" key.

Max Sushchenko.

Thanks Max,

That is what I did yesterday and restarted services twice. But it blocks the message again.
This morning I installed the latest build and restarted services again. It still blocks the attachment.
I will request support from GFI just to see what is going on.

Regards,

Zoran
