Hi

I've got an idea for some extra features for MailEssentials.

1) Address Checker

Our securityappliance for webaccess has a tool to check why a specific url is blocked. It indicates which rules are applied.
It would be nice to have a simular thing for MailEssentials. When a user receives a mail in his spamfolder, he can check in the internetheader which module of MailEssentials put the mail in the spamfolder.
But when the user forwards the mail to the IT-department, the internetheaders are gone and the IT'ers need to check all the logfiles of the modules to find out why the mail was put in the spamfolder.
Maybe the 'address checker' could be tool that just searchs in the different logs?

2) Double List Warning

It sometimes happens that an e-mailaddress ends up in both the white- and the blacklist. Wouldn't it be nice to have a tool that sends an alert to either the IT-deparment or the person that adds the mail to the second list?

Greetings

Alternatively, tag the email differently for each module and use the rulemgmt.exe to move it into the folder. Then the subject contains the information you require and is retained when the user forwards it to you.

Thx for your answer RSP.  I think this might help.

I'm just wondering if this couldn't cause a problem for the Bayesian Analysis.

Our employees check their spamfolder and add trusted e-mail to the public folders "Add to whitelist" and "This is legitimate mail". If for instance we put the tag [SPAM] for the module "keyword checking". The Bayesian Analysis will receive some legitimate mails with this tag. Won't those mails finally all end up in the inbox of the users?

Best Regards

Interesting thought; something I had never considered. However, if the tag [SPAM] is in the subject, then the rules management will shift it to the junk folder, so it might not be a problem anyway!

Obviously if you receive a legitimate subject containing your tag, it will end up in the junk, so consider what you use to tag emails with carefully. If you use a common stem for your tagging eg "[THISISSPAM-" then add some text to identify the module after it before closing the bracket, then this will identify the module in the subject.

Example, I often use "[CRUD-xx]" where xx is BA for Bayesian, SR for SpamRazer etc, and use [CRUD- as the condition in Rules Management.

The "Add to Whitelist" only functions on the sender of the email so wouldn't be subject to your concerns, but the "This is legitimate mail" folder gets passed to Bayesian.

Perhaps a GFI guru could enighten us as to whether the tags applied to emails could taint the Bayesian Analysis?

Do you know how folders that are automatically created by the rulemanager can be deleted?
We created the default folder INBOX\JUNK. Since Outlook is installed in Dutch, we do have 2 inboxes now (Postvak IN and INBOX).

Greetings

Tom

I don't know of a non-manual way of deleting them. Do you have many mailboxes? This might help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180232

Unfortunately I've been in the same situation - It will keep defaulting to Inbox\Junk, so I have to remember to change that every time I add a new user to the systems.
