We have quite a few sites now running GFI Mail Essentials for anti-spam and MailSecurity for content control.  Great combination.  The single most requested feature we get asked for from IT administrators and corporates is attachment stripping, as opposed to attachment blocking in MailSecurity.

This request comes from the every increasing amount of email messages with signatures containing JPG or GIF corporate logos.  All organisations are wanting to reduce their risk and stop the spread of pornography, which often comes in the form of JPG pictures.  Seems simple - block JPG attachments...

However blocking JPGs also blocks/quarantines legitimate emails that contain auto-signatures with JPG corporate logos.

A much better approach would be the ability to detect an attached JPG, and simply strip the attached graphic file, and then on deliver the original email message, minus the JPG logo.

Can I get some feedback from the forum re this issue.

Are other resellers / installers also experiencing this situation / issue.??
Would you also feel this to be a beneficial feature for MailSecurity..??
Have you dealt with this issue in another way..??

Look forward to your contribution and feedback re this issue.

Mark Ritchie

Hello maritchie,

Feature requests are reviewed by the product managers at development stage of new versions.  Unfortunately there is no update about this feature request.

Regards

I think it is worth mentioning that this is a feature that was present
in MailSecurity 8.1

I've never heard an explanation as to why the feature was removed in later versions.

I'm using mail security v10, and this is something I would very much like to have.

Today I have been trying to block image attachments, but I'm effectively prevented from blocking .jpg attachments because of attached signature image files.

I thought I could get around it by blocking .jpg attachments over 100k in size, but I can't perform any and/or type functions on the attachments.  As example, block .jpg attachments >/= 100k

When I try to block attachments larger than 100k, it blocks ALL attached files larger than 100k, regardless of file extention.

This is a useless feature with such a limited scope.
