Greetings,
I am having a ton of difficulty installing the Faxmaker Client 12 onto a pc. the software installs fine, but it will not create the printer. I am selecting the Exchange 2000/2003 and it acts like it is going to install the printer, but it doesn't.
This is a new XP machine, running a bunch of additional software as the user is a blind transcriptionist, and the software is text to speach to assit her at her job.
I have tried the following:
stopping and starting the Print Spooler.
Installing under account with local admin rights
Installing under my domain admin account
manually install using the fmprinter_uninstall.cmd and fmprinter_install.cmd ( both give errors )
checking that there isn't another Net Share Faxmaker device.
I'm at a loss. Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Installing on any other pc work fine, it's just this machine.

What error message are you seeing?
What are your Driver Signing Options (system properties, hardware, Driver Signing) Ensure they are set to either Ignore or Warn

Hi RandyR,
I'll have to check that machine, but it should be set to warn (or whatever the default is)
I do get an error that the driver isn't signed and I select "Continue Anyway"
Installation proceeds without any additional errors, but no printer is installed.
the fmprinter_uninstall.cmd and fmprinter_install.cmd both give errors. I'll run those again on that machine so I can give you the exact error.

Let's try to COMPLETELY remove the FAXmaker printer
-delete all reg keys for the FAXmaker printer
HKey_localmachine/system/current control set/control/print/environments/windows NT x86/drivers/version 3/FAXmaker.
HKey_localmachine/system/current control set/control/print/monitors/GFI monitor
HKey_localmachine/system/current control set/control/print/printers/FAXmaker.
-restart the print spooler service
-run fmprinter_install.cmd
-restart the print spooler service

Ok, lots of stuff going on.
I did not find either of those entries in the registry. I restarted the print spooler, and reinstalled teh FAXMaker Client msi. Still no printer nor any registry entries. The installation does not give any type of error
Then, when selecting the fmprinter_uninstall, I get an error "An Error occured while removing the Faxmaker Printer driver"
When trying to run the fmprinter_install, I get the same error occuend while removing the faxmaker printer driver, then Continue Anyway or Stop Installing driver signing box. After selecting Continue Anyway, I get an error that says "Failed to copy the following file(s): '%printdir%\faxmakerprinter\stdnames.gpd,%printdir%\faxmakerprinter\unires.dll'
Pressing OK finishes the installation, still no printer or registry entries.
To clarify this installation, we're running Faxmaker 12 on our Exchange server with a Brooktrout modem. That is working fine. This is just a pc that has to have the software installed on it, because the user is blind and has to work from her local desktop instead of a remote session on the server, where everyone else works. The Faxmaker client was installed on her old machine, which died. We have her working on a completley new pc, with all her other software reinstalled. This is the only software piece that is not working. The machine is a standard XP Pro.
Oh, and I'm trying all this under both her domain login (an admin on the local pc) and my domain login (a domain admin), so I don't believe user rights are an issue.
Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My first though is to upgrade to 14 and call in for support. You can try to run the 14 client against the 12 server.
Did you have the GFI FAXmaker server service stopped before you ran the fmprint_install.cmd?
I'm puzzle why you don't see the registry entry?

I can't upgrade the whole system to 14, as it was installed and supported by Misys / Allscripts. They were simply no help with this issue, so i'm working on it on my own.
I just reread your post. So I can download the v14 client and install it on the local machine to run with v12 on the server?
I may try that. Otherwise, I have no idea on this machine why it won't install the printer correctly.
Any other thoughts?

I'm puzzled why you do not see the registry keys. I looked at the post and discovered I mistyped the registry keys. If deleting these keys does not correct the problem, then please contact Misys/Allscripts directly. The FAXmaker 14 client is not supported when used to connect to a GFI FAXmaker 12 server, but it may work.

Hey Randy,
I downloaded the 14 client and it installed fine. So far it's working great.
I don't know why the v12 gave me so much trouble, but since this is now working, I'm not going to touch a thing. : )
