Any emails sent to/from external (non-exchange) addresses are not included within the same conversation thread. [they appear as a separate conversation, same topic/subject]

Is this a known limitation?

Hi Tim,

This is because certain email clients do not store conversation IDs data in the internet headers.

Thank you for the reply.
I have done some (limited) testing, with a client that purportedly supports conversation ID's (gmail) and another site using MS Outlook.

Neither were identified in MailArchiver within the same conversation.

We use Postini for Spam filtering, as such the header is a little different. I was wondering if this could be the cause? I could email you the header if you would like to see it / provide an address. I would rather not post it in a public forum with the email address info contained within it.

Unfortunatelly there are several standards for conversation grouping. And different email clients follow different standards.

For example: Outlook Express, Netscape and some Unix clients follow RFC standard that uses "References" header. MS Outlook, Exchange and OWA use "Thread-index" header.

The problem is that these standards are not compatible and client simply discards unknown header.

MailArchiver currently follows "Thread-index" grouping for conversations.
