Hi all, Really loving this software at the moment and thanks to Rodion got an issue out of the way already. At the moment I'm in the process of creating 2 Databases. The first one will act say from the end of this month and store all future mails coming into the company in its archive. The second database goes back about 2 years. I am running the PST/Exchange import tool and importing all of the users mailboxes to the pickup folder where they are being stored into the DB. What I've noticed from your notes is that when the import tool goes through a mailbox, its changing one of the attributes I believe on each of the mail items... The reasoning i think is so that when you try to run the tool again, it'll see that you've already imported 2500 emails and will only import the newer ones since the last time you ran the import. Thats all fine. However what I have noticed on the 2 mailboxes that I've created... Bearing in mind that the users have 1gig mailboxes and are using Outlook of RPC on a 25k uprate connection from the main head office. Is that their outlook clients despite opening up their cached copies, thinks that alot of the items have changed, and are trying to download LARGE amounts of identical data from the server. Now from what I can tell, no emails are being duplicated. But outlook i think is downloading the same mails again and replacing the exisiting ones, POSSIBLY because it notices that the attribute has changed on all of these emails and therefore decides to grab it again. For internal local clients, not a problem... for these guys and the 50 other users, could pose a problem. Is this making sense where I am coming from?? I'm 99% sure its GFI as its only downloaded the data again on the clients which I've currently run the Import tool on. Looking forward to a reply. JP

I know that Nobody has replied to this post but I've been thinking and had a thought.... When i was doing the import before into the SQL db i was doing it direct from the Exchange server mailbox (which I believe is where the flags against each mail item was being changed) hence the reason why Outlook2003 would download each mail again from that mailbox. So if i export each mailbox first using exmerge to a .PST file and then import from the PST file, the original mail items in the exchange mailbox will not be altered correct? This should resolve the problem i had run across. Just sharing my thoughts. JP

Hi, Thats how I would have done it in the first place. I prefer to use the tools that come with Exchange to export or import data. Then use the 3rd party tools to get the data to where I want it to be. But in answer to your question, yes that method should work. Cheers Dom

When using Outlook 2003 cached mode feature, it would be best to use the exmerge utility to convert the e-mails from the mailbox to PST and then use PST Exchange Export Tool to extract those e-mails from the PST. Using this method, your Exchange Mailboxes will not be modified, hence Outlook will not continue to update the emails within the Folders. Thank you!

Lets Kick some life back into this one.. I am in the process of converting my travelers (not full time remote users but semi regular travesl to China) to the RPC functioanlity in exchange. In refernece to above.. they are in the office all the time, so the connectivity is line speed.. Suddenly, as soon as I put the fianl changes in place on the exchange box, and re-booted it, Mail Archiver can no longer connect.. I think it has something to do with the "web" addressI gave the archiver "XXX.XXX.COM:81/mailarchive but I am not sure.. Now I can not log into the archive system at all.. so .. Does anyone feel this is RPC realted.. Second to that.. How does outlook connector work with RPC.. assuming I can recitify this other thing?.. )
