I am trying out MA5 in my test lab. I am running Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2008 cluster as this is the way we are going to be running our production exchange servers this year. The Client access server is on a different server because you can not cluster that service. The only way I can add a server is to use the client access server on the add server page, is this going to work? Or is there a different way to do this. Or is a clustered mail server not supported? Thanks, Ian

Hello Ian Where do you plan to install GFI MailArchiver? On the Exchange server (which one then?) or a standalone machine?

Standalone. Right now I have a Client access server, 2 servers in a cluster, and a 3rd server running MA. All are running in VMWare and 32bit if that helps. Thanks, Ian

For the standalone MAR installation just enable the IMAP protocol on you client access role and then configure MAR to poll your journaling mailbox via IMAP

I have done that, and can not see any test emails being added to the database. I can login to the journal mailbox and the test messages are there, but not it MA. Thanks, Ian

If the emails are still in Journaling mailbox that means that they are not bein collected. Can you please check the "Mail servers to archive" page to confirm that the journaling mailbox is listed there and the archiving is active? If yes, click "edit settings" and then "Next" 3 times. This will test the connection to the mailbox

There is lies the issue, the only server that I can make it connect to is the client access server, it shows that it can connect to it, but if I try to add the actual mailbox server it can not connect to it because there is no IMAP installed, and can't be installed because it is a clustered server... Thanks, Ian

You need to connect to the client access server

Hello iann, Let me just confirm a couple of things: - Did you create a mailbox that you want to use as your journaling mailbox? - Has journaling been configured on your Exchange 2007 (http://support.gfi.com/manuals/en/mar5/mar5manual.1.11.html)? - Are you journaling via Store level journaling or via journaling rules? - Do you see items ending up in this journaling mailbox? - Did you configure this mailbox under 'Mail Servers to Archive' in the MailArchiver Interface? I'm a bit confused by some of your replies. You mention that everything is running under x32 VMWare. Do you mean that you are running the x32 test version of Exchange 2007? If so, such a setup is not supported by GFI (and Microsoft). Further to this, is your MailArchiver installed on Microsoft Windows Server 2008? Kind regards,

Jan, Yes I created a mailbox for Journaling. Yes Journaling is configures on the store that is on the cluster. Yes to Store level Yes I can see the messages going to the Journaling mailbox. Yes I configured this mailbox in MA, but it does not resolve to the Cluster serever, it resolves to the Client access server. And finaly yes it is the 32 bit version of Exchange, but it is in a testing envrionment so it is supported by MS. I need to show that MA will work with a clustered mail server before I can get them to let me try it in production. And no MA is installed on a 2003 server. Thanks, Ian PS is there any logs I can send you?

MAR shall point to the Client Access role server because this is where IMAP service is running. You can, for example, setup an IMAP account in Outlook Express to test the connection
