I have MailArchiver running, but when I look in the c:\program files\GFI\MailArchiver\Core\Temp folder there are tons of ExchangePerflog_xxxx.dat files at 4,096 Kb each.  They filled up my hard disk and caused the GFI service to fail on start up.

My question is what is what are these files used for, where do they come from, and are they safe to delete? (I already did and it seems to be working fine)  I am worried about long term mainentance for this system.

thanks,
Jeff

What build of GFI MailArchiver are you using?

please ensure you have the latest build

yes you can delete such files as they are only temp MAPI files used in the user mailbox synchronisation process

I am using Version 6, build 20080924 which I downloaded a couple of weeks ago. (BTW - that is newer than the info posted on the "Build information for GFI MailArchiver 6" post).

Is this "normal" for MailArchiver?  I guess it is not a huge deal, I can easily schedule a script to erase files in the \temp folder, but it would seem like something that should be taken care of by MailArchiver.

Such files should be removed automatically by MailArchiver

I suggest you increase the MonitorPollingDelay value in ExPollingSettings.xml (MailArchiver\Core\Data) to a value larger than 10 (for example 30)

Most probably you have a mailbox which is not being synchronised correctly.

I increased the MonitorPollingDelay delay value as you suggested, but the files continue to collect in the ..\core\temp folder.

When you say "you have a mailbox which is not being synchronised correctly" do you mean that a particular mailbox may not be sychronized, or that various emails that go to multiple mailboxes may not be sychronized (meaning that any given mailbox may only be partially archived).  In either case how can I determine if this is the case?

I suspect that there are some emails not being archived.  I am pretty sure that I received an email from GFI yesterday that has a license code to extend the trial, but I cannot find it in the archive.  While I cannot be 100% certain MailArchiver is at fault, since it is on a test machine that occasionally locks up.

Synchronisation is a seperate process to the archiving process.

Still no emails are skipped or missed as long as all emails end up in the journal mailbox.

to fix your issue:
Enable debug logging and take a look at UMPollRem.log. You should see if any users are beign excluded from synchronisation. (only the journal users should be excluded) If other users are being excluded then add a key to product.config (MailArchiver\Core\Data\)
'UMPollingSkipExchangeCheck' and set it to true.

Also take a look at UMPoll.ExPoll.log and check if there is an entry that the process terminated cause it was blocked - search for "Polling seems to have blocked...Forcing termination". If this is so then you need to further increase the MonitorPollingDelay setting.

hope this helps
