Eng.Rimawi,

Using GFI MailArchiver with a Microsoft Exchange 2000 / 2003 Server cluster

The information in this article applies to:
  • GFI MailArchiver for Exchange 3
  • GFI MailArchiver for Exchange 4
  • GFI MailArchiver for Exchange 5
  • GFI MailArchiver for Exchange 6

    Article ID: KBID002478

    Query keywords: Cluster

GFI MailArchiver can be used with Microsoft Exchange 2000 / 2003 Server cluster, however GFI MailArchiver cannot be installed on the cluster itself. GFI MailArchiver will make use of IMAP to retrieve emails from Microsoft Exchange server. Proceed as follows:
    • Configure an IMAP Resource in ‘Cluster Administrator’ console. Do this by:

      1. Opening the ‘Cluster Administrator’ console.
      2. Go to the Exchange Resource Group.
      3. From the Menu Bar click File -> New -> Resource. (Or right click on Exchange Resource)
      4. Give a suitable Name and Description for IMAP4 Server.
      5. In the ‘Resource Type’ field, choose ‘Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 Server’.
      6. Before clicking ‘Next’, ensure that the Exchange Resource is in the ‘Resource Group’ field.
      7. Add the Nodes which you like to own the Resource, Click Next.
      8. Add the necessary Dependencies for this Resource (Exchange System Attendant is enough), Click Next.
      9. Choose the IMAP4 Instance to be added as Resource, Click Finish. In this way the IMAP4 Resource should be displayed in the Exchange Resource group.
      10. Bring the Resource Online.

    • Configure GFI MailArchiver to retrieve e-mails using the Microsoft Exchange Network Name or the Exchange IP. Do not use the Cluster Network Name / IP. These are normally two separate Resource Groups.

    Note:

    • From the GFI MailArchiver configuration, you need to configure GFI MailArchiver to use IMAP for retrieving the emails.
    • For more information on how GFI MailArchiver can be installed with a Microsoft Exchange 2007 clustered environment please see KnowledgeBase article: KBID003370.
