Hi, We have discovered that there is a problem with GFI Faxmaker 12 and the SMTP Data setting for Directory Harvesting. If the directory harvesting is set to SMTP Data, than a faxmaker 12 client will display the following error: C-0007 - Send failed: make sure that you have your SMTP settings from the GFI Faxmaker Message Form options correctly set up. If I set the Directory Harvesting to Full Email, than the fax is send without a problem. I would like to keep using the SMTP Data option, because of the fact that messages are not downloaded, but at the moment it is causing trouble with Faxmaker.

Correct, correct and CORR-RECT! However, in the meantime, I suggest you configure the Faxmaker New Message form to send the emails directly to the faxmaker machine, thereby bypassing the entire exchange machine. Just ensure that your Domain or the entire network has access to the virtual SMTP or it won't work. If you have Exchange and faxmaker on the same machine, then maybe you would have to work with two virtual SMTP Servers on the Exchange box. Not sure if this will work though. But then again, the good people at GFI can quickly try it out on their test-servers, right..?

Are you running Exchange 2003 or 2007?

We are running Exchange server 2003, with the faxmaker connector. The faxmaker server is running on a different server because our mailserver is a virtual server. I have made one more modification to the whitelist which I want to test. I have added the faxmaker.com in the whitelist with the two smtp options. We were only using the mime from and to setting. I'll get back on that past as soon as I have tested it (setting up the test as we speak).

That wont work since the whitelist does not work at the SMTP session level. Just remove faxmaker.com from the Inbound Email Domains tab in the properties of General.

Just a heads up that this also affects the list server module within MailEssentials too! The SMTP level filter either needs a manual whitelist needs to be smart enough to check the listserver for email addresses! Anyway, I'm back to full filtering now and will do the directory harvest filtering at the exchange level and not MailEssentials.
