Is the remote registry service enabled on the machines you are trying to scan?

On some computers the remote registry service was not running.
The error message was: 'Connect to remote registry failed with: (errno 53)'
After starting the service I got the message that I have posted first.

Are all the machines joined to the same domain?  Could there be a credentials issue?

All machines are joined to the same domain.
The services/agents on the machines are running with rights of system account.

Can you access the registry from the GFI machine of the remote machines (Start -> Run -> Regedit -> Then connect to a remote registry?)

Yes, there is no problem to connect to the registry of the client in the described way.
For me, it looks like the scan tool works not with vista systems.
I have tested the tool with 4 or 5 XP-systems and it worked fine.

I have this problem too on my 2 vista computers, and I have no problem connecting to the remote registry of the 2 computers. I'm using GFI ESEC 4.0 20080215. Any solutions or suggestions on how to fix this.

Thanks

To perform a Device Scan ESEC needs to connect to the device manager of the machine. By default Vista doesn't allow remote access to the device manager but you need to enable it manually. To enable it do the following on the Vista machine.

1. Start > gpedit.msc
2. Go to Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System \ Device Installation
3. Double click on  "Allow Remote Access to the PnP interface" and enable the policy
4. Restart the machine
