Designating Fax Lines - 5.Nov.2008 10:49:37 PM

I have a 4 line GFI license. I just put in a Mainpine IQ Express 8 channel card. When I talked with my CDW Fax Rep he said that I would be able to designate which ports I could use on the 4 licenses.

After I ran the detect Faxmaker selected the first 4 ports as the lines I could configure. I am thinking my CDW Rep was not familiar with how GFI loaded the ports on the card. My original Brooktrout card let me select the lines I wanted to add, this is different from how the Mainpine lines loaded.

If i disabled the port in Device manager and reran detect, would it skip the disabled ports? thus allowing me to select which lines on each port I want to use.

I am asking because my original intent was to load 2 Mainpine IQ Express 8 channel cards and split my lines between the 4 interfaces. That way I could have redundancy should a card fail; I could just reconfigure the working card to handle the lines on the card that failed. To me this is a better scenario than paying for Express replacement.

Any thoughts if this is possible?

Hi justty,

You can configure the lines you want to use manually.
- Go to GFI FAXmaker Configuration > Lines/Devices > Properties
- Remove the unwanted Lines configured by the Auto detection process
- Click 'Add' button
- From 'Device type:' drop down list choose 'GFI Fax Modem Driver'
- Select the COM ports you want to add to Lines/Devices.
- Once the lines are added go to each line's properties
- In the 'Modem type' drop down list configure the actual modem type for that particular Line.

Hope this helps.
