It’s ineffecient and impractical to install larger patches from the NSS server to multiple workstations that are on the other side of a slow WAN link. Is it possible to copy a patch once to a server on the remote LAN and have it installed to all the remote workstations from there?

Main office NSS server -----wan link----->LAN B Server ----->PC1,  PC2, PC3

I thought I could use the deploycmd.exe, run it on LAN B server to deploy to PC1, 2, 3, etc. But no joy, as the executable has many undocumented dependancies.

Thanks.

Are these Microsoft patches being deployed, or custom software?  If this is custom software you could copy the package onto a remote share on the remote site, then run a carefully crafted batch file which points the machines to this package.

I arrived at the same conclusion since my initial post.

I wrote a seperate batch file to stage patches (non-MS) to the remote servers. I deploy across the WAN another batch file via NSS that copies the patch from the closest server to a local folder on the PC then run the silent install for the patch from the local folder. Works great, once I figured out to deploy the batch file as an administrator with logon as service permissions.
