I have the following setup FaxMaker 14 with Exchange Server 2003 TR1034+E4-4L - 4 Channel Analog - PCI Express PBX is Nortel Option 81c We need to be able to pass the DTMF information from the Nortel PBX onto the fax board in order to do inbound routing. Our PBX person tells us that we would need a T1 Card to do this but GFI support says its possible to pass DTMF from Nortel. Can someone confirm that I have the right hardware and if this will work. And if this works, any help on how to configure the Nortel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know that the TR1034+E4-4L is capable of capturing DTMF digits and FAXmaker should allow for DMTF routing with this hardware if the digits are provided. As far as the Nortel is concerned, they should know how to provide DTMF digits if this hardware is indeed capable. You would need to contact them for any configurations on how to do so, and once they configure these lines to send the digits, you should be able to plug in an analog phone to the line and hear tones coming down it when it rings in. If this is the case, I can further assist you with DMTF routing. This would be necessary before proceeding.

Ernest, Thanks for the response. I have already worked with GFI support and everything on the GFI side is ready to receive the DTMF digits. Its the PBX part that we cannot figure out. The PBX folks insist that we need a T1 Card on the faxmaker server for them to be able to send out DTMF digits and they cannot do DTMF on analog ports. Thanks.

Please review these two links regarding DTMF: http://www.dialogic.com/support/helpweb/brooktrout/iw1464.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual-tone_multi-frequency DTMF is performed over analog lines. If they state you need a digital card at the FAXmaker server, this is Nortel stating that the hardware is not capable of producing the DTMF digits. This may be the case, as not all hardware can do this.
