Hi

Does anyone know a way to customise the variables so that it picks up a field in AD.

i.e I'd like to use the 'title' in AD user account, therefore setting all emails with a custom signature for all users.

[SenderName]
{Title}
[SenderEmail]
Company Name, Contact and Disclaimer....

Many Thanks

R

Currently this is not possbile with MailEssentials 12.

I have added this as a feature request!

Thank You!

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I would also find this a VERY useful feature (didn't want to open a new thread, just to say so)!
We currently use a vb script to pick up users AD details and append them to emails, which isn't a great way to do it, as it doesn't work in Outlook Web Access.
It would be nice if GFI ME could pick up any AD variable, but if they are going to hard code the variables like the currently have, then it would be useful to have at least the following additional:

Description
Title
Department
TelephoneNumber
Mobile

Any ideas when a new version of GFI ME will be available? And if this feature is going to be in it? Looking back at previous launch dates, I would guess soon, as there was 9 months between the launch of GFI 10 & 11, and 10 months between 11 & 12, and that was 9 months ago!

Cheers

Ben

This would be a hugely simple thing for them to add.
Threads regularly crop up in connection with this.
Every time it's "added" to the feature request list and it's never actually implemented.
The request threads just disappear from the top of the list as folk lose interest in asking.

What I dont understand is why they dont post a progress type thread showing what the requested features have been and how many folks have asked. Then people could add their nameson the list of the features they would like. It's a pain in the bum as AD can store so many usefull bits of info and we just cant get to them through ME12

That would be very nice to see! As you said there are 100s of threads all requesting this feature if you do a search of the forums. Would be good to have a single place for everyone to express an interest!

As you said, it would be very easy for them to add this feature. Especially as they already have an LDAP query in the directory harvesting module that looks for existing users. It would be a simple task to copy the code, modify it slightly to query additional fields, and add it to the disclaimers module. I could even supply the code myself, if they needed it!

For those that would like to be able to do this, then I have written the following EventSink that you can use to append custom signatures.

http://www.benblackmore.co.uk/kbase/SignatureEventSink.txt

To use this, you will need an SMTP relay, between the outside world, and your exchange server, due to the way Exchange sends MAPI messages. You will need the smtpreg.vbs file from the Exchange SDK to be able to register the eventsink.

Simply copy the contents of SignatureEventSink.txt into a vbs file and modify the "User ID" field to include an account with Active Directory read permissions. You can add/remove the fields you want to pull from AD by modifying the sAttrs field.

If you find it useful, or have any improvements, please let know!

So any word when we can expect this feature added?  I wanted to use the Disclaimer feature to implement Company-wide signatures but was very dismayed to see that there were no variables for titles or phone/fax numbers.

Since GFI already has this disclaimer feature implemented, as others have said, it shouldn't be too difficult to pull variables out of AD, or even allow us to customize our own.

As for all feature requests, we see here every day the sentence "Will be added as feature request", but no new anymore later.
When someone asks for a ETA on when it'll be done, you get another standard message "We can't give a timeframe".

In My Humble Opinion, GFI is moving away from the products for e-mail, and moving to products for network security (see other (new) products in their list). Sad to see a good product going down...

This has also been asked for several times earlier, so there should already be feature requests for this.

Hi,

At this point, it is still to early to provide any release date, or information on whether this functionality will be added to a future version. We do note all requests done for each feature, and features which are requested multiple times do get more consideration.

GFI is NOT moving away from the email products. GFI is still actively researching new technologies that can be used to improve the functionality of our email products.

I have given up long time ago on GFI ever putting those sorely needed features in MailEssentials.

Instead, I have written some logon vbscript to automatically pull the info from AD and configure outlook, and another script to set all users OWA signatures from AD as well. I need to touch up those scripts a bit, and will post them soon.
