Can the connector be "assigned" via GPO without prompting the users (I will be trying it at some point but figure someone here would know and save me some testing!).

Does Outlook work with the connector work if Outlook is not connected to the network (i.e. a laptop offsite).

Also, I am not interested in syncing etc.  I just want a folder with te search capability.  I know this could be done without the client installed, but I can not figure out how to do it for everyone (i.e. via GPO).

Thanks,
Bob

Hi BobW,

yes, the connector can be deployed via AD GPO.  This is all explained in the Connector manual and Quick Start Guides supplied with the installation.  You can also download these from our web site:

Quick start guides: http://www.gfi.com/mar/6/quickstarts/
Outlook Connector manuals: http://www.gfi.com/mar/6/outlook/
GFI MailArchiver 6 manuals: http://www.gfi.com/mar/6/server/

Thanks and kind regards,

Thank you for your prompt reply what about:

Currently the connector will not work properly offline since the cache database only holds a skeleton of the message and the rest is loaded when you click email to view. You will see the emails in the box but not be able to view them unless it, the connector, is able to connect to the interface.

As for your second question I would have to research/test on deploying this setting via GPO but you can link a folder in the mailbox directly to http://<server>/mailarchiver/search.aspx and the search interface will load directly in Outlook.

I looked at the Outlook ADM Templates and it does not look like you can create a folder for them and point it to a URL but you may be able to do this via VBScript as a login script.

That is what I came up with as well.

From my testing it appears that if the laptop is offline and the archive server is unavailable that Outlook starts with an error.  Is there some way to eliminate the error at the start of Outlook?

Point being my users could work offline in Outlook without getting an error!

Thanks,
Bob

You would have to have the user remove the GFI MailArchiver mailbox when they go offsite and re add it when they come back

Please try and add the request for a "silent failure" (not prompting the user that the GFI server is offline) to the future builds!

For me that is the one point which is holding me back.

Thanks,
Bob

Offline support is slated to be on the way but there is no guarantee that it will make into a future release
