I have a custom application that strips data out of the rcvlog.txt and sendlog.txt files and imports them into an access database. This database is then used to query, via an ASP page, each departments inbound/outbound statistics for the day. I have recently found that I am getting conflicting information between the 2 files. Example: SendLog.txt I am faxing between 2 lines on the server "7/28/2009","10:02:11 AM","A.Fax@company.com","A Fax","","","123-4567","","123-4567","00:50","2","SUCCESS","Fax sent successfully : Success","Line3","" RcvLog.txt "7/28/2009","8:17:00 AM","My sender number","00:05","0","FAILURE","Handshaking failed","Line5","","" "7/28/2009","10:02:14 AM","My sender number","00:34","2","SUCCESS","Fax received from My sender number","Line5","","A.Fax@company.com" "7/28/2009","11:26:12 AM","My sender number","00:05","0","FAILURE","Handshaking failed","Line5","","" "7/28/2009","2:27:43 PM","My sender number","00:08","0","FAILURE","Handshaking failed","Line5","","" As you can see I sent 1 fax to this number on 7/28, but I am showing 3 failured for the day. Since The RCVLOG showed my number other fax line as the caller, why am i not seeing it in the SendLog.txt file? I have been testing and have initiated the abort call option within the Fax Monitor to generate failure reports, so i can show my end users what they look like. My confusion is that the logs are contradicting themselves. Why does 1 log show 1 call out and the other shows 4 call in?

The sendlog is going to make one entry within the maximum number of retry attempts set in the GFI FAXmaker configuration, so if it attempts three times it will only write once. The reasoning behind this is because it is one job going out one line. The difference between the sendlog and rcvlog is that the rcvlog could be getting jobs from multiple numbers or multiple jobs from one number, and it is not going to know what job is attempting to receive; therefore, it wrote in this instance 3 times. If you want these to be balanced (as most users do not send to themselves), you may want to set the number of retry attempts on a line to 0 and restart the GFI FAXmaker services. With this configuration, each job will be attempt specific and you will see balanced entries in the sendlog.
