I installed GFI endpoint security demo and was running OK for some days. I created several protection policies based on computers in different gegraphical locations. This went on well and Ikept adding computers, during this process of adding other computers when the server (win 2003 server) running GFI endpoint hang, i decided to cold boot the machine. Now All the clients I had added so far disappeared and cant see them from the protection policies, moreover the agents on client side are active and have locked out all removable media devices. Now if you try adding any computer to the policeis it does not show under active computers, and therefore you cannot deploy or remove agents to/from them, Also EPS does not complain that computer is already added moreover they had been added before computer hang. More over trying uninstalling the GFI endpoint security does not accept. Any assistance will be useful. We are running GFI EndPointSecurity 4 (build 20080215).

The software may have a corrupted set of configuration files which would cause our software to think the agent was deployed, and still control the agent, however you would not be able to make any changes. If you create a new protection policy, can you add the computers to it and deploy the agents? Do you get an error message? If so, a ticket will need to be opened at http://support.gfi.com so we can address configuration files. If not, you should be able to continue with the new protection policy in place. I don't feel like the cold boot caused this issue. I believe the root cause of this issue was already occurring without being noticed.

Thanks DrewE for the reply. Actually the problem has since been solved, sent querry to support and problem was with one of the files in the Data folders i.e toolcfg_computers.xml , found unedr \GFI\EndPontSecurity 4.0\Data folder, that particular file had been damaged or something as now when I checked it was changed to toolcfg_computers_temp.xml due to some reason. What I did is I just renamed it back to toolcfg_computers.xml, and I was able to view the computers that I had set in policy. Support had advised to just get a backup copy of that file, which copy I did not have, but renaming it worked. Also I now know its a great idea to always make a backup copy of my configs for any GFI product, through the Export function. Good day!
