hello. We just upgraded from 7.0 to 8.0 and i tried to have it preserve the settings. I think that is causing problems though. I now get errors when i try to scan that say "The limit of maximum 256 computers in the database allowed by the license was reached. The rest of the computers will be skipped." We have nowhere near that many computers being scanned. Following that error, i get nothing -- the scan is done, and it doesn't show any results. Any ideas what would be causing this?

You can see a list of scanned computers under 'Configuration -> Settings -> Database Maintenance Operations Properties -> Scanned Computers' Here you can delete any old computers, or machines that may have changed IP Addresses since first scanning.

It shows no computers scanned, and the count at the top says "Number of computers in the database: -1"

Any other ideas on this? I guess the next thing I'll try is removing and reinstalling, but i'd rather not do that if someone has an idea what else may be causing this.

It sounds like your database may be corrupt or unavailable. If you are using Microsoft Access as the database backend can you change the name of the file you are using to a new file? You will loose your previous scan results, but this may allow you to scan computers again.

We're using SQL. Will a wipe/reinstall fix this?

I have my doubts that a re-install will fix this issue. This is usually database corruption. Can you try changing the database type to MS Access and then immediately (without clicking apply) change it back to SQL. Then, try applying the settings. This will force our software to ensure connectivity to the database server is valid, and may return an error message if something goes wrong.
