Email gateway: MSEC v10, build 20070410; ME v12, build 20070810; MA v4, build 20070616 on MS Server 2003 R2 SE SP1. Data source: Exchange 2003 SP2 on MS Server 2003 EE SP1 In attempting to install MSEC Build 20070619 over 20070410, I get the following: "Error 1923.Service GFI Content Security Auto-Updater Service (msecavupdate) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.” I'm a Domain Admin. Selecting 'Ignore' then produces: "Error 1920.Service msecavupdate (msecavupdate) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.” Selecting 'Retry' produces the same result and you cannot get beyond this. Selecting 'Cancel' rolls back the installation and the 20070619 build installation essentially fails and I've got nothing at that point. I've reverted back to reinstalling Build 20070410 and for now I've got a working MSEC build up and running.

Hello, Try to uninstall MailSecurity, reboot the machine and reinstall the latest build of MailSecurity. This should solve the issue that you are encountering. Regards

Hallo Sandro, I just uninstalled MailSecurity, rebooted the machine and reinstalled the latest build, but the error message remained. Could the MailSecurity Reporter be a problem? Should I try to uninstall both MailSecurity and MailSecurity Reporter and then reinstall the latest build again? Susanne

Hello Sandro, I uninstalled MailSecurity again, deleted the "csecmlhost" and "updatersvc" registry keys and rebooted the machine. Then I reinstalled the latest build of MailSecurity. Now all works fine. It seems that these tow services have not been correctly uninstalled during the uninstall routine. Perhaps this my help other users too. Susanne

Hello, You need to confirm that after the previous build of MailSecurity has been uninstalled, the following registry keys have been removed as well : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\csecmlhost HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\updatersvc HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msecmlhost HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GFIScanM After uninstalling MailSecurity, ensure that the above registry keys have been removed (if not, delete them manually), reboot the machine and install the latest build of MailSecurity. This should resolve the issue. Regards

Sandro, I'm willing to upgrade GFI MS, but can you give some more info? * If I simple run the installer, will it update correct? * If I first uninstall the programm first, delete the registry keys mentioned above, and install the new build, I'm losing all configuration settings? (FYI, I'm running this on a gateway server)

Hello Kristoff, On most installations the update process works without any problems. This issue has only been encountered on a minor number of particular installations which we are currently looking into. Try to perform the upgrade procedure normally, without deleting service registry keys first and see how it goes. If it fails, with the errors as per this forum post, you may try the above suggestions. Regards

Following up: Because we do have some 24/7 departments, I had to wait for limited production hours to attempt sandro's suggestion of 5.Sep.2007 at 9:31:14 AM and initially pointed to by spoellath on the 4th. Within the last ½-hour, I performed sandro's suggestion and it worked. I've now got an operational version of Build 20070619 up and running and to respond to KristofT, all configuration settings were retained. We too are running in gateway mode. Thanks for everyone's effort and I do truly hope this has been a limited experience for a small number of MSec users. I have no issues with MSec so please do not look upon this as a reflection of the product; rather an isolated case of installation error.

I too took the risk this weekend to update GFI. No problems to update, it went smooth.

I'm getting the same error as others in this thread, about msecavupdate not installing. I see the solution shown as an uninstall/reinstall, however does this mean I lose all my custom settings? (various block lists, etc.)?

Thanks to Joe at US support, I was able to get through this. I did an uninstall of my previous version (20060530), which leaves all of the config files. I then went into the registry and removed the auto-update service (can't recall exactly what it's called - just look in your services list) under CurrentControlSet. I then did a reboot and installed the 20070619 build - worked fine. Thanks Joe!
