Hello, kind of new to Fax Servers. I cannot find an article or explination to what the difference between a brooktrout analog loop-start modem is and a DID trunk modem is? Can someone please point me in the right direction with an article or something.

I'm going to have a faily simple setup. A server with 1 analog line, but with several DID's attached to that line. Will a brooktrout TrueFax 200-R modem work?

Thank You.

This article my help to explain DID and Loop start http://www.dialogic.com/webhelp/IMG1010/10.5.0_WebHelp/WebHelp/varianttable.htm

With the TruFAX card, you will have your telephone switch, or the local telephone company create a pool of DID number pointed to an analog line. A FAX send would dial the DID number and the telephone company, or your local telephone switch will then send DTMF digits down the line to TruFAX card. The card will then "listen" for these DTMF tones.

Technically DID is Direct Inward Dialing; a digital technology requiring a T1, and DID is NOT compatible with the TruFAX. However the DTMF (Dual Tone Multifrequency) is analog technology (a mature technology) and is compatible with the TruFAX. You can use DTMF with the TruFAX to accomplish the same goals
