I have Me 12 build 20071005. My problem with the blacklist is this, it takes forever for the module to load when working in the console. When I say forever I mean after waiting three hours it still has not come up. If I did not know any better I would say it has locked up.

When I looked at the config.mdb file there are over 74,000 entries in the blacklist table.

Some of my users are not the most technical people in the world, I caught one of them the other day dropping items that had been tagged by the filter into the blacklist.
I know that some of them need more education on the usage of the filter and I am working on that.

I would like to trim down the blacklist to a more reasonable size, say 10,000 or so.

With the ME services turned off can I copy the config.mdb then edit the blacklist table down to a more managable list and then copy the file back?

Or am I just going to wait out the long loading time?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

The best way to do this would be to make a copy of the config.mdb and edit the copy.  Once you have the blacklist trimmed down you would want to do the following to replace the config.mdb:

1.  Open a command prompt and run "iisreset /stop" without the quotes
2.  Stop all GFI MailEssentials services
3.  Close any GFI MailEssentials Configuration or GFI MailEssentials Monitor windows
4.  Browse to ..\Program Files\GFI\MailEssentials
5.  Rename config.mdb to config.mdb.old
6.  Copy edited config.mdb into ..\Program Files\GFI\MailEssentials
7.  Start all GFI MailEssentials services
8.  Open a command prompt and run "iisreset /start" without the quotes

This should allow you to release the lock on this config file and proceed with the replacement.

John,
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try and let you know.
