Yes, now it works. Checked with two locations, both with GFI ME build 20.3, Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010.
In my case there were necessery to perform: solution 1 step 1, than solution 2 all steps.

New update for BitDefender (singatures 10580396) and Exchange 2010 was automaticaly updated without issues.
But Exchange 2003 => FAILED [VSE] again!!!
    WTF?
After restart of two services (GFI MailEssentials AV Scan Engine and GFI MailEssentials Autoupdater) it works again.

But sorry, I'm not paid for real-time monitoring of GFI ME.
There is something wrong with anti-virus module. It is not normal, that simply update breaks or corrupting the system!
Why there are no error-recovery or fall-back procedures?
I can accept a few failed mails during "FAILED [VSE]" condition.
By why GFI ME self cannot recognize it and temporary disable corrupted engine or service or perform a restart of impacted modules?
Simply error-condition, all messages "FAILED [VSE]" and hope, that admin have time to take a look and see the problem.

    I need a solution for 20.3!
As already mentioned, I'm taking care about Exchange 2003 as well (pls don't ask why) and GFI ME 21 not supports Ex2003 anymore.

I wrote already a small batch-file (below) but this is not a solution which I'm expecting.

    :Loop
    timeout /T 30
    if exist E:\Programme\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\FailedMails\*.txt goto VSEError
    goto Loop
    :VSEError
    net stop gfimesavupdate
    net stop gfiscanm
    "C:\Programme\Windows Resource Kits\PSTools\pskill.exe" -t GFIScanM
    timeout /T 3
    net start gfiscanm
    net start gfimesavupdate
    del E:\Programme\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\FailedMails\*.prop
    ren E:\Programme\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\FailedMails\*.txt *.eml
    goto Loop

Currently I would not update to ME21. Gives you nothing but trouble as Scan Engine is crashing very often. No working solution for this!
      GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP 21 (20171003) on Exchange 2010
GFI MailArchiver 2012 (20120928) with FireBird
      GFI EventsManager 2013 13.1.0 (20130606)

BitDefender Antivirus no updates currently in progress (last update succeeded) 20/10/2017 12:41:02
