I have been a user of Titan Backup for some time now and have had no problems with it. I received an email asking me to upgrade to GFI Backup, which I did, but now I am having trouble with it. I re-created my backup task and ran it without any problems. The next time I came to run the task, it doesn't work. All that happens is a message saying "Waiting for Tasks to complete..." appears in the Progress/Status column and nothing else. It just sits there doing nothing. If I stop the task and restart it, it does the same thing. I deleted the task thinking it was corrupt in some way, and then recreated it again. It ran the task once like before, and now it refuses to run any more. My machine is a Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop running Windows XP with service pack 3. It also has Internet Explorer 8 installed. I am using GFI Backup Home Edition version 3.0 Build 20090514.

Hi alfl. Please send me the GBT and LOG files of your task. You can find more on how to do that here.

Unfortunately, the logs did not reveal the cause of this problem. Do you still have Titan Backup installed ? You could try to uninstall both programs (Titan Backup and GFI Backup 2009), then completley delete the folders where the programs where installed (usually C:\Programs Files\Titan Backup and C:\Program Files\GFI\GFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition). Before deleting the folders, make sure that you copy somewhere else any backup data that might be saved in those folders. After that, restart your computer and install again GFI Backup 2009, then try to see if your task runs properly.

I've done as you suggest, but the problem is still there.

Hi alfl, I talked with a software developer from GFI Backup team and we rechecked the logs. Do you try to start the task right after it finishes ? GFI Backup 2009 waits 2 minutes after a task complete before considering the task finished, so it is possible that if you try to start/stop a task manually quickly, you get that error message. After you reinstalled the program, how many tasks did you created ?

No, the task won't start after a machine restart. I created 2 tasks, the other task works fine. There must be something in the failing task that's causing the problem. I usually try to run the task at the end of the day, but it fails to start. This is without trying to run the task since the machine was started up at the beginning of the day. It consistantly runs once after task creation, and then fails to run again, after restarts, waiting etc. When it displays the "Waiting for Tasks to complete..." message, I've tried leaving it for more than an hour, but it does nothing.

Hi! I have the same error. I run GFI Backup on Vista. I have set up 2 task. One of them backup some folder from D: to C:, the other one backup some folder from C: and application settings - including the GFI Backup project files - to D:. I scheduled it to 20:00 (D->C) and 20:01 (C->D). They can run only once after I set up it. If I try to start it manualy, it says: "Waiting for Tasks to complete..." If I remove the tasks, and import them again (from a backup), they will work fine. How could I resolve it? Thanx: Zsolt

I had the same issue initially - I just restarted both GFI services and then the task ran normally. Somewhere there is a lock that is in place after a backup has run and that lock is preventing the next backup from running. Restarting the services appears to remove whatever lock is/was in place but not if you reboot the machine which is very odd.
