I might have missed something really obvious on this one, but does anybody know if you can schedule reports?
Basically I want to know if you can schedule the reporting program to run the reports on a daily basis. So I could have like a summary report emailed over or even just created every evening at 5pm for example?

Thanks

Monkeyman, as far as I know NSM doesn’t have a mechanism to schedule reports but you can use the Scheduled Tasks from Windows to run the NSM reporter with some parameters at the desired time interval.

What you need to do first is to create a reporter configuration file, which will hold the settings that will be used to generate the report. To do this you should run the reporter with the following parameters: nsmreprt.exe /record:<filename>, which will open the reporter and save the wizard's options in the specified file (<filename>).

After you did this you can run the following command to create a new report based on the saved configuration: nsmreprt.exe /nodialogs /file:<filename>, where <filename> is the same file specified before.

Hi 2dS,

Thanks for the quick response, and it sounds like it might do the trick for me! The only thing, I'm not sure of is how it handles date ranges?!

If I record the report information with todays date in and set it to run tonight. In theory when i open the report tommorow it will have todays information on.. but when i then schedule the same report to run tommorow night what date range will this record?

Thanks,
Monkey

Just done a test, and it also uses the same file name as the first time you ran it as well therefore overwriting the previous file that was there.

Ideally wanted it to create a new file everytime.. hmm..

Might have just found what is needed from this link -

http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002473

Will play around with some of the config file settings and see what i can come up with. If i manage to sort something out, will post a guide on what i did with 2dS help!

The kbase you've mentioned explains in details how you can create the reports. But the idea is easy, the configuration file generated is an xml, in which you could adjust the parameters. So for the date you can choose TODAY or THISWEEK in the DateType tag, and the generated report will be always generated for the day or week in which the reporter was executed.

If you want to generate different reports you should modify the Output tag and use the %DATE% and %TIME% place holders, something like this nsm_report_%DATE%_%TIME%.htm.

Cheers 2dS

Have just had a quick play and got it renaming the file fine. Will leave it to run as a scheduled task over the weekend and check the results on monday.

Thanks for all your help.
