Hi,

We are gonna install Exchange 2007, and we are gonna use Mail Security 10 (MSEC 10)

Because previously it wasn't possible to install MSEC 10 on an Exchange 2007 server itself, the only way we could make it work was to install MSEC 10 in gateway mode.

Now there is a new (beta) build of MSEC 10 where it is possible to install it on an exchange 2007 server.

Could anyone help me out, what the advantages/disadvantages are of installing MSEC 10 in gateway mode (like functionality which ain't possible, etc)? Or the advantages/disadvantages of installing it on the exchange 2007 server?

I'd appreciate some information!

Thx

Hi,

Should you install GFI MailSecurity directly on the Exchange Server, you will have to option to enable Information Store Scanning. This means GFI MailSecurity will be able to scan internal emails for Viruses. This option is not available if you install GFI MailSecurity in Gateway Mode.

The rest of the functionality remains exactly the same. With regards to installing GFI MailSecurity in Gateway mode, you might consider the following advantages:

1. Removing the load for GFI MailSecurity from your MailSever, leaving your Exchange Server with more resources available.

2. Should your Exchange Server be down, the Gateway Server running GFI MailSecurity can still recieve emails for your domain. When you Exchange Server is online once again, the Gateway Server will forward the email to the MailServer.

Thank you
