Advance Queue Failed to Deliver Message - 19.Nov.2007 12:38:39 PM

After some recent updates from Microsoft, I have noticed, that GFI will no longer process some emails. When searching for the emails in System manager, I notice that I see the response of "Advance Queue Failed to Deliver Message". This seems to be a sporadic item, as some emails are being passed to the users subfolder where as others are not. I have not been able to distinguish between the different rules, as all are receiving email, however not all messages are being passed to the folder.
I am using Version 12.
Any Help with this?

jakel,

What actions are configured for the the filtering options in GFI MailEssentials.

How ecactly can you see that GFI is not processing some of the emails? Are SPAM emails being delivered without being blocked?

The actions setforth are to move the items to the sub folder of the inbox of the users folders such as inbox/phishing. The way that I can tell the email are not processiong is that when I pull up exchange system manager, and look for an email, in tracking, I see in the exchange tools that the email came across and was sent to advance queue, after that it will say that it failed. After that I am informed with the date and time of the email, I will then look in the log of ME for each rule (or specific rule if I know which one), and see that the email did indeed process thorugh GFI, however did not make it to its final destination.

Hi,

Can you please clarify if the emails are being moved to the Global Actions?

Is this issue occuring to particular mailboxes?

Thanks!

What I can clarify, is that in the log, the email shows up for GFI, header checking. I have each rule keep a txt log of what happens to the email. All rules move to a sub folder, of the inbox. As to the Global actions, I am not sure what you mean by that.
This is happening to all mailboxes, across the board on two separate domains, located in separate buildings, not tied to the same networks. In other words, two GFI installations.

jakel,

When GFI MailEssentials is configured to "Move to specified folder", message tracking will show this error since the Exchange server never Delivers the email to the appropriate mailbox.

What I need to know is what happens when the mail is not delivered, we have valid email just disapearing, not going to a vaild mail box, and I need to know what happened to that mail, and why this is happening.

Hello jakel,

Could you please clarify about the issue?

How did you confirm that the emails disappearing are valid emails?

Do these emails show up in the GFI monitor?

Is the status for such emails, within Message Tracking in Exchange, an 'Advance Queue Failed to Deliver Message' ?

GlobalActions are configured when MailEssentials is installed on Exchange, and MailEssentials is not able to move an email to a subfolder of a user's inbox, such as in the case of public folders or invalid email addresses.  Hence it will take Global Actions as defined within MailEssentials configuration -> right click on Antispam -> Properties ( http://support.gfi.com/manuals/en/me12/me12manual.1.30.html )

Please check the action configured within GlobalActions and let us know about such emails.

Regards

The way that this was confirmed is that a user was expecting an email from an outside source. She had asked the sender to send again, when the email did not arrive for the second time, I checked in System Manager (Exchange), this shows when the two emails arrived, and also how they processed (Advance Queue Failed to Deliver Message). Once I saw this, and had the date and time, I then turned to GFI Monitor, I was able to see that the emails did arrive and process through GFI. I then looked at each log file for all of the rules, as all of the rules, must log to a text file. Upon checking the logs, I had found that the Header Checking rule had applied, and both emails were in the log. From this, I checked under header checking proprieties, to see how the email would process normally (Global Actions). In this screen I found that all email would be transferred to a sub folder in the user’s inbox.
I have verified that the recipient is valid and that they have the sub folder in question; I have had the sender send the email again, and have restarted GFI, and the server to see if this would have any effect. The installation is on a Server 2003 machine, with Exchange and GFI, on the same machine. Processing power is not an issue, as the machine runs at max 10% when under a midday load, of 1000 emails an hour.

Hello, I am having this EXACT same issue.

Within the past week or two, spam emails have simply stopped being moved to the appropriate sub-folder of any inbox.  I can track the message using exchange and gfi logs all the way from receipt to delivery, but they never show up in the inbox.

The exchange message tracking center says "Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver Message" which i guess means that GFI intercepted it.

I am watching the emails being processed in the GFI MailEssentials Monitor, and every single one says "Item Processed OK", but they dont' get placed in the inbox.

I just checked my Global Actions setting, and it is set to delete any mail that cannot be moved to a user's inbox.  I just turned on the log for this Global Actions setting and it is telling me that valid users do not exist, and it is deleting the message.

All of my filters were set to move to a sub-folder, so I just changed two of them to tag the subject, and those messages are now coming thru to my inbox.

It is apparent that GFI is thinking that all valid users don't exist and is deleting all spam instead of moving it to the appropriate sub-folder.

PLEASE HELP.

Hello TDM,

When you find "Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver Message" this is most likely due to the fact that you configured one or more Anti Spam modules to either deliver the message to a specified folder (Move to the specified folder) or to Delete the as spam detected message. Another possible scenario is that the message goes to the Global Actions (Anti Spam > Properties > Global Actions tab (if available)).
More information regarding this can be found on http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID003276.

I would advise you to check the actions you have set up and to track where these messages are delivered (or if they are deleted by one of the Anti Spam modules).

Kind regards,
