Dear All,

I am testing SNMP traps for GFI event manager, every time i scan the event source i get an error message "ERROR connecting to the machine 192.168.1.2, Error 0x5, Message: Access Denied". My GFI event manager system was on domain and i was logged in as Local Administrator still same error message, then i tested it using Workgroup even then same error message, then i directly connected the printer to my GFI event manager system through a switch making direct connnection but the error still persists.
Any idea where am i lacking?? Windows firewall is turned off, no firewall is running, i am not on domain any more.
its been a week now and no result :S
if any one could help, it would be much appreciated!!

Are you also collecting windows events or W3C logs from 192.168.1.2 ?
What type of device / machine is 192.168.1.2?

Dear Easley,

192.168.1.2 is a printer and i have registered it under the Default Group of Print Server.
192.168.1.3 is my computer system. This is the description of the Default print server group "Add your print servers to this group. The logs scanned are the Windows security log, Windows application log and Windows system log. The scanning will use the appropriate processing rules." I wanted to collected SNMP Traps of printer but when i allocate the printer as an event source under the default group of Print Server, it states that it will collect windows logs.

i am very much confused here. Do i need to place the printer in some other group to collect snmp traps?

Try creating a custom group for the printer and enabling ONLY SNMP logs - It should remove the access denied issues. You want to make sure you do NOT try to collect Windows logs or W3C Logs from this type of device. Also, what type of printer is this?

Thanks Easley for your prompt reply,

sure i will try this thing buti am not sure if there is any option of creating any customized group. anyways i will give it a try. i spoke to one of my local gfi support personnel and he said that i am getting this error message because in the printer there is no option to tell the printer to send the snmp traps to my GFI event manager so that is why i am not receiving any traps and getting message access denied.
the printer is a network printer model HP P3005. Strange enough it has options to get community string for SNMP but no destination ip address for the traps to be send to a logging server. The snmp traps can be send using email alerts but thats not what i require. tell me if what the support personnel said was true?

i dont see any place where to send attachments to this message else i would forward you all the configurations so you can have a better idea.

please do let me know if its mandatory to have a destination IP address for snmp traps in printer. Though i see destination ip address field for syslogs in the printer.

thanks
