Hi, I tried to start scanning computers with a scanlist.txt file. I stored this file in C:\Programme\GFI\LANguard 9.0\Data. It contains the netbios-names of the computers. But it won't start scanning: "0 Computers to scan". Same result, when change to IP-adresses. The troubleshootingguide shows no problems. Ciao Tom Host: W23k, LanGuard 9.0, Build 20090709

Do any of the computers respond to ping requests from the GFI machine? Also, once you start a scan look under the Analyze Tab, then towards the bottom for the "Scanner Activity" window. The first tab should give you details into the network discovery occurring when a scan starts. Do you see any errors here?

Hi Drew! Thanks for your reply. All Computers answer to pings. I can see them even with the enumeration tool. I can make single scans by entering the IP or the netbios name. But I don't succeed in using a scanlist.txt. It is already the second installation with this behavior. I'm already at home so I can't check the tab for the errors. I'll do it tomorrow. Ciao Tom

When using the scanlist.txt please ensure the file is located in the C:\Program Files\GFI\Languard 9.0\Data folder. Also, when prompted for the scan target enter exactly: file:scanlist.txt

Follow DrewE's instructions to the T because it certainly will fail if you don't. It floods the field with the full path name to the text file when you browse to it and you have to trim it down to say file:scanlist.txt (or what ever you named the .txt file). I'm surprised this hasn't been resolved in a patch yet.

Hi, I've tried all your hints. No change: I entered "file:scanlist.txt", the file can be found in C:\Programme\GFI\LANguard 9.0\Data, I click "Next": Error: Invalid target "A valid target should be one of the following ..." When I click "Scan" then I get "IDS_Invalid target" Is there any log, where I can see, wether the file is found? Ciao Tom

What are the contents of the scanlist.txt file? It should be one IP address or hostname per line of the file, no commas. For Example: 192.168.1.0/24 10.5.1.18 DC01-MAIN FILESERVER Would scan the entire 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.255 subnet, the 10.5.1.18 IP Address, and the two machines DC01-Main and FileServer.

From GFI Languard does the scan range xxx.yyy.zzz.0/24 work? This would assume you want to scan the entire subnet, If not try: xxx.yyy.zzz.0 - xxx.yyy.zzz.15 (which would scan .000 through .015)

Hi, it seems to bug but I've got a workaround. The problem is, that Languard isn't able to find the scanlist.txt. I tried to enter the 5 IPs directly ("123.456.789.1 123.456.789.3 ...") instead of "file:scanlist.txt" and started the scan. In the scanwindow I could see, that the scan was interrupted because of the list, that I had entered. Languard eliminated all whitespaces, so the IPs couldn't be identified ("123.456.789.1123.456.789.3.."). Now I entered file:scanlist.txt and restarted the scan - and now the scan is ... scanning. Ciao Tom

I have this same issue, however the workaround is not working for me. I cannot use a file:scanlist.txt or anything like that to scan. I tested by just having 1 item in the scanlist.txt, put it into the data directory, and still had the same issue. I can use the file on custom scan, but not on quickscan (where i need to use it)

You can perform a "Custom Scan" with the file list and simply change the scanning profile to any type of scan you wish to use.
