The company I work for has ME12 running on a server separate from Exchange, and after a varying amount of time, ME stops responding (time between stops varies, amount of messages processed varies) after a restart of the server it resumes processing. I have checked the Event Logs with no luck ... Any suggestions?!

Hi uniquemodel, In the GFI Monitor are items all being processed OK at the time that the issue occurs? If no, please check this knowledge base article : http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002742 Are you running any antivirus or backup software on the same machine as MailEssentails? If yes, check this knowledge base article : http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID001824 Regards

Sandro, Thanks for the reply! All messages are processing as ok when ME stops responding. However I will verify the Anti-Virus solution you commented on and will let you know soon!

Sandro, I have checked and double checked your backup & antivirus information and I am still encountering the same issue with ME12 stopping processing. The event logs show nothing to aid me in troubleshooting, anymore advice is appreciated!

I'm having a similar problem. I upgraded GFI ME and Mesec to the latest versions and now when the server boots, GFI processes maybe 100 - 250 emails and then stops. No errors in the event log. The only resolution seems to be to reboot the server. I have a bit of a problem on my hands though - I have over 100,000 emails in the queue that I need to process before tomorrow morning. I tried renaming the queue folder and creating a new one and seeing if the size of the queue was the problem (is there a limit?) and it made no difference. Now I have one folder with 100,000+ emails and one with another 5000 emails. Help! Edit: I've done some testing and found that although it stops processing the mail in the queue folder, if I drop some new mails into the drop folder, some of them get processed and then it stops again. If I put some more mails in the drop folder some of them get processed and then it stops again. I am now getting emails coming through but they say "please note that a critical failure occured on the senders messaging system at the virus scanning stage...." Thing is, I am sending test messages from home and I am not using GFI. I am still getting problems with the message flow stopping but now I am getting this additional problem. I have turned off AV scanning in Msec and still getting the problem. I also disabled all my content filtering in Msec and also the Directory harvesting. 18:45: I have built a brand new server (Windows 2003 SP2) and installed the latest Msec and ME software. The same problem is happening again. I haven't transferred anything from the old server other than autowhitelist.mdb and weights.bsp 20:40: Given up on the new server. Went back to the old one and rolled back (Vmware snapshot) to my original installation before I had any problems. Sure enough the problem is still there. I have performed all the tests in ME including DH all of which say they are fine. In Msec I have tested DH and that works. What I have done next is to disable everything in Msec (apart from AV) to see if it still stalls. So far I am at 1700 emails processed and it's still going. Ok, it's just stopped at 2000 odd emails. What I have noticed is that I can no longer stop the SMTP service - it just hangs. I have to reboot to get it all going again. I used to be able to stop and start the SMTP service at will. 21:27: I have now disabled most of the modules in ME and waiting to see if it stops processing again. I have disabled DH, Bayesian, DNS blacklist, Spam URI and the anti-phishing.

Hi I have been using ME since version 10 and I install ME according to the KB articles http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002742 http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID001824 I have ME running on about 40 customers servers but not till the latest version (build: 20071005) have I seen GFI stop processing mail so often. 'Item processing unsuccessful' in GFI Monitor. I believe something has changed within GFI ME that is causing this as nothing else has changed on alot of these servers Thanks for any advice HR

From what I can tell the DH module in ME seems to be the cause of the problem. I am on a slightly earlier build of ME than the latest but even on the latest the system crashes on me. Tech support - I would like you to investigate this further. I have spent more or less the whole weekend on this and am at a loss as to what else I can do. So far I have hit over 3000 processed emails without DH enabled but I have to say performance is somewhat slow - I might reduce the number of DNS lookups we do on each email to speed things up.

I have been working with GFI and for some unknown reason the error i was having with ME halting has corrected itself, by itself. Previously I would get 30-40000 messages and then have to restart the server, but now it will run a whole week or longer 100000 messages or more (my server restarts over the weekend for anti-virus)

I concur the newest version of GFI falls over Regularly with the 'Item processing unsuccessful' error but seems to only happen on Directory Harverst module the rest process OK.

Since my last post it appears that I didn't knock on wood loudly enough, because ME seems to have reverted back to its original problems! Yesterday ME12 processed about 45000 messages then it halted, but all messages are processing as OK, when I watch the mail monitor every message that I see go through says 'item processed ok'. You would think that if NASA uses this product that it would work for anyone.

I'm having more or less the same issue. Randomly, the MS Exchange 2007 Submission queue starts filling and no email is delivered to any mailbox until I stop and restart the GFI MailEssentials Scan Engine. I have MS Exchange 2007 with GFI's ME and MS installed on the same box. When it's working, it's absolutely fine. Everthing works as expected, and then out of the blue the queue begins to fill until I restart the ME Scan Engine.

We also have the same problem, we're running ME on the Exchange server. ME will pretty much just pack up and stop processing emails (however doesn't do any filtering to them). We've started looking at the problem and it happens at a specific time of day (sometime between 12:15am and 1:15am), it also appears to only happen when the inetinfo.exe process runs over 200MB (IIS does get a little cranky when that happens). But we have no idea why this is happening, a simple IISreset will get everything back on track again, but we don't want to just put a generic bounce script in there if there is a solution to the problem.

We have the same problem too,we install ME12 and MS10 in the same vmware virtual machine. From Jan this year ,ME12 has worked quite well for near ten months. Howerver Recently ,ME12 stop processing at a varying interval. I have monitored it for about a half of month, but found out nothing! I really hope someone can work the reason out and release me from the nightmare.
