Only when accepting external meeting requests am I getting this error below. I have disabled 8bitmime, but it doesn't solve the problem:

Have you rebooted the Exchange machine after following http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q262168 ?

Yes, I have rebooted and still the same thing.

Background:
Smarthost gateway = Server 2003
Exchange Server = Server 2003, Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup 8

All email coming in and going out works fine EXCEPT when anybody in my organization accepts/declines a meeting request from outside of the organization. From the bounce notice it looks like my exchange box sends to my smarthost (GFI) in 7bit according to the diagnostic message "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit". It appears that the smarthost box doesn't like 7bit and bounces it back. Am I correct?
